-5 here near the lakeshore Muskegon area. Not too bad and the wind died down from 50 mph to about 0.

My app says -11'F!!

Down to 7 Ladies + 1 drake now for about one year. It is harder with fewer members of the flock. Will let out very briefly today for some sunshine but back to lock up after that. Only one egg in 2 weeks. Ugh hate winter.

Since we are reporting the temperature...

Minus 10 when I got up. It is up to minus 8 now.
It was 47 in my bedroom and 53 in the main room. Yup, furnace quit during the night. Looks like some tinkering is in order and hoping I can get it running again. So glad I have the wood stove.

OH NO did the pipes break?

nope they didnt break however i do have heat tape i just got for that line to the toilet...and the bathroom even had a 2500 watt heater in there...crazy

oh no raz...good thing for the wood stove..thats all we have is the wood stove....but temp is up to 60 on the floor and 71 in the middle of the room so getting warmer

-2F was low in the coop about 8am, supposed to get even colder tonite.....
..........and I have a broody with week old chicks out there.

Been giving very wet mash 'hand fed' at the nest entrance every couple hours....
.........counting down the 30 hours until the temps go back up over 10F.

We got about 6-7 inches of snow yesterday...clear and sunny today.... a visual, if not physical, respite.

Where does one buy poultry nipples? My TSC doesn't carry them, and I didntvwant to have to wait for online shipping. It's so cold (-3*) that I want to "winterize" a little waterer for inside that coop that won't freeze.

Reeeeally need to clean out the coop, but it's so cold that my nose hairs freeze. Not to mention the girls are trying to snuggle in nesting boxes.

EDIT: Called around and found some at Family Farm & Home. Planning on putting a bird bath waterer in there to keep it heated but not too hot!

I don't know of any brick and mortar that sells them.......
.......takes more than just the nipples to beat the cold, need heat too.

This place has the best price I've found them.

@aart // Thank you! I called around, and Family Farm and Home had two packs left. We put a heated base in the coop, but that worries me, so I think we're going to put a bird bath heater in the container with the nipples. Hoping the girls pick up quickly! Chickens seem to!

I hope they are the horizontal nipples, because the vertical nipples (that go in the bottom of a bucket) might not stay thawed even with a heater in the bucket.
Depends on how warm the bird bath heater gets the water.
