Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

They are salmon faverolles. Great eye candy chickens. Good bird for families, they are more docile bird. Even the roosters mostly. Just not when they belong to Opa.. I think it was Opa who had a rotten rooster.... Anyway, medium tinted eggs, 4-5 a week during peak laying season, feathered feet and monster beards. Hardy bird for Michigans climate. They are harder to come by however... You can order them from hatcheries, but you may not get the best quality always, or what should meet standards. They are considered a dual purpose bird.
do you know where i can get some this late in the year?

As I sat here drinking my coffee I heard the weatherman utter to words that I hadn't heard or missed for months..........................wind chill.
I must admit that hearing them again does make it a little harder to keep a positive attitude but since I was able to hear them it's going to be a good day.

I don't think that I like hearing those words, Opa. I'm glad that my docent duty will be in the conservatory today.

Yesterday after finding 3 eggs from 42 girls I decided it was time to set the timer and the light. I know that some are still recovering from their molt and some are still actively growing feathers, but really!

Also after spending the past week reading about fermented feed I drilled up a bucket and started a batch of scratch. If they seem to like it and it isn't to hard I will buy some grain to ferment and feed everyday. It is supposed to save on feed costs which would be great. I have 6 birds more than I wanted for winter but I also have 4 that are supposed to be moving and 2 roosters that I hope to rehome - Orloffs.

Stacykins - I'll throw this out too, I'll be up your way next week for the UP quilt hop so if anyone wants birds and to cut 3 hours off the trip I could bring them down below the bridge.

hmmm is it posibleto get aholdofhimon here?
