Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It is still 52 degrees here and the sun is still shining. I got a good bit of yard chores done. The girls gifted me with 11 eggs today. That is 100% production.

The maple tree...not so much. But still I got some flow.

The EE hen I have in with my Lavender Amerucana gave me a jumbo egg today....

This is it next to a normal egg. I figured it was a double-yolker and didn't want to try to hatch it (not that it would fit in the 'bator anyway) so I figured I'd check for fertility...Yep! Double bulls-eye :)

Is that just from today?
Freezing temps last night there?

No. That is about three (3) days worth.
I'm not really sure what I'm doing here.
My first tapping wasn't deep enough to get the sap. I re-drilled to go deeper into the tree and this is what I have so far.

Quote: I just started too...did a mini tap with what I could scrounge up around the house.
Just wanted to see the process first hand, not planning on any 'production'.
Can't afford the fuel needed to boil down large quantities anyway.

Just have 1 tap on a 12" diameter silver maple.
Went 2 1/2" deep with a 1/4" I.D. pex tube.
It only flows the day after the night temps go below freezing.
