Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I usually find most comercials inane, and some insult one's intelligence. However, once it a while one comes along that is quite amusing. The free ranging chickens qualifies as does the Android commercial "Friends forever" using the Roger Miller song Oo de lally.

It is apparently extremely hard to find anyone with a leghorn rooster let alone a white one. I guess they really do all go in the stew pot. Found someone with eggs so might have to go that route, just means no pures until next year

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!!

The predators are out in force now. First we've seen the Bald Eagles every day this week. Even yesterday during the mess coming out of the sky he was out back. I actually consider them more of a scavenger. Saturday we had a coyote show up. Both dogs were outside so it was a difficult thing to yell for some one else to shoot it so I could get the dogs inside. DH got it. Yesterday before the snow we had a red tail hawk having a bit to eat, thankfully not a chicken! This morning the dogs are out and I had just got the little guy in and went to the window to see where the big guy was when a coyote comes running in. I got the dog in and the coyote was still there. I went to shoot it only to discover the only gun out is my sons left handed, so I woke him up but by the time he was ready to shoot the coyote was running again. I'm sure he'll be back, hopefully not when the dogs or chickens are out.

Hi, I just want to know how to join this group. I am new to backyard Chickens. I am from Southern Michigan and we just started our chicken flock last week.
Welcome, BYC, check out Raz 's signature, hope you can make chicken stock, June 20 Lansing

Any idea what kind it might be? It sorta looks like a sugar maple leaf to me, but I'm convinced that's probably just wishful thinking, lol. It looks like Norway and Sugar maple have very similar leaves.
I still say Norway. If I'm right about it being a Norway Maple and not a Sugar maple, the Norway maples will have dark purple or green leaves and may not change much in the Fall, or they might turn yellow or brown and drop off. I've seen my neighbors' Sugar maples with slightly lighter green leaves but then in the Fall they will turn all brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red, starting where the sunlight hits them the most. I have no idea what trees can and can't be tapped, ask our threadmates ; )

Spring is here and that is something to crow about!

Pretty bird, and a great pic!
Thats how I got my avatar...

Next person to ask that question, I say we get them to post a selfie with underpants on their head or some other silliness! Ha, I'm just playing! Welcome, MSMoore! Are you South of Detroit? Mount Clemens here is the North/East suburbs.

I agree with Opa here, and normally have dissenting and loud opinions
