Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hey everyone, new to the forum thing. I'm having a hard time finding where breeders in my area might be. We're in Woodland, just outside Lake Odessa. So.... I'm looking for someone that has some cream leg bars, copper morans, Easter eggers, or olive eggers. I'm starting some new crosses in the spring too our Cemani's. Any recommendations on local breeders would be great! Thank You!

Wynette breeds marans and olive eggers. Fantastic birds, and a very nice lady.

Tap! That's fantastic of your son! My oldest missed a big doe last night so now we are going to start some serious crossbow practice so he gets more season in. Just terrified of him taking a finger off......

Lost half my girls to preditors this summer, hawk, fox, coyote. Heart breaking.
Welcome to byc,

sorry about your loss, perhaps we can help make them safer lots of chicken owners that have experience with predators

if you don't get a response right away post again. there are people that have all the above on this sight. not sure of locations but I'm sure some one can help

I'd go for it....been thinking of doing the same, the thought of 'shoveling' them holds me off, it's a bear of a job.
I don't think there's any tree where the wood chips would harm chickens.
Thinking about mixing some dried out leaves and grass clipping with the chips.

About the only tree around Michigan here that could possibly be an issue would be walnut. I used to work in a lumber mill and we all hated when we had to process walnut. there's an compound in it that makes the dust from it really itchy. But as long as you're putting it somewhere that's pretty well ventilated, it shouldn't be a problem. Walnut is a pretty dark wood, so you're fine as long as you're seeing a lot of lighter shades of chips, it shouldn't be walnut.

Took me a while today, and it still needs a little adjusting, but my coop now has a dutch doors on it.

Great to hear, thanks, aart & bigmr! I am thinking an "old-fashioned" metal pitchfork would work best. I'll give it a whirl, and my mind was put to ease by your posts. Very much appreciate it.

My BIL also sells the drones if your ever serious about it I can give you his info. He has a high end one, what kind I don't know. He was out harassing the chickens last week. They didn't like it!
tap, will you please PM me info.? Probably beyond my means for high end, but I might could get some a good recommendation from him. Many thanks!!

Well, we closed on our Davison house and now living in Dimondale! It's good to be all done with the selling and buying process! Not fun...
Now have to build a new coop. I'll be legal here! Yipeeee! Exhausted from all the packing, loading, unloading and unpacking. Now in the process of making this house our home. My chickens are staying at a former neighbor until we get this coop done. Can't wait to bring them home..
So happy for you, Rose!! And many thanks for the hutch.

Glad you took the hutch, Wynette! Hope you put it to good use! Having the cement pad put down tomorrow for the coop. We'll be coop building this week end! Can't wait to bring my girls home!
