Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well if that's the case John, then I think I'm still covered.

hahahhahha!!

The TSC in Three Rivers has removed all signs of chicks and rearranged the floor to it's regular configuration.

FF&H in Three Rivers said several more weeks yet...God bless them.

The local TSC usually only had straight runs unless it was ISA Browns, RIR, and once or twice they had Leghorn Pullets. And they had a 6 chick minimum - each time you bought. I have a hard time hiding 6 and pretending there wasn't a time space continuum issue and the population in the brooder did not miraculously jump...

On the other hand - FF&H had Pullets of Australorps, BO's, GLW and SLW, EE's and BR's. I get those aren't rare (I get hatchery as well - but it's my first flock so I am happy with it) but I appreciated the wider selection. And they let me get as few as I thought I could smuggle in successfully - so ultimately - TSC got one sale, and FF&H supplied 2/3'rds of my chicks. AND they ordered me one EE Rooster so I had one more full size Roo to handle all these girls.

Do I like TSC better in floor plan, print materials and web sites? Yes.

Have I bought nearly all my purchases including barn paint at FF&H anyway this spring? Yes.

Anyone who lets me order a singleton Roo of a breed I wanted gets a lot of love.

It's kind of sad that I know that FF&H here uses Townline - so I stalk the Townline site to see what else I can still score this season...

It's really sorry how bummed I am that Townline does not have Speckled Sussex, Mille Fleur OEGB, or anything Crele. I am obsessing about crazy pretty feather patterns. I go to the GFF website and just ooh and Ahhhh at all the pretty chickens.

I breed pretty chickens ♡

Still trying to break my broody Pencilled Rock...she's incredibly determined, I really have to admire her

. I only have 7 hens and no rooster....this is the 2nd time she has gone broody and the 1st time was barely a month after she started laying for the first time!

You must want fertile eggs? Near Lansing or Novi? Mary

i dont know if your talking to me (the OP) but i have no way to hatch fertile eggs, plus with my luck id end up with all roosters...

Atleast with chicks i can choose what i want, and stick them in a brooder.

I was thinking about getting some chicks from meyer hatchery. Raising them to about 6-8 weeks old and then sell off all my other chickens and strictly have welsummers.

They if any did reproduce they would be 100% welsummers, and not mixed with a isa brown or buff orpington etc....

But the downfall is its kinda nice have more than 1 breed, different size and color eggs, different "personalities" in a way

plus its fun to research chickens, learn about the breed etc....

Id love to find some welsummers, but for the time being i think im going to pick up some RIR to add to my flock for now....still debating on barred rocks....

:( New to ducks and what do they do when they are young, peep" I thought all ducks quacked :)
yeah....they peep (although mine may have been influenced by the 15 chicks they were next to? hahahhaha!) Apparently the females (hen? duck?) quack and the males (drakes) grunt/hiss. And the girls are supposed to be much more vocal in general. I got all of my ducks st run from TSC and FFH, so we really are hoping to NOT have all boys.

We kicked the 60 (well.....59 now....one EE got smooshed the 2nd day in the brooder) chicks OUT of the house last night and into the much-modified-for-brooding spare coop. Of course, THEN we had power flickers for the next 3 hours making us wonder if we needed to go out and retrieve them all for the night just to be safe. Nope. Too lazy. Thankfully we never completely lost power and everyone looks great this morning.

How come welsummers are so sought after? I see quite a few people looking for them. I'm new to chickens and feel I may be missing out on something
