Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Maybe a friend can help you build or hire a handy man. When we moved, we were in a big hurry to build a shed so I can keep my chickens. Bought a shed kit from Lowes. It's not the best. No over hang, so no ventilation. We put the shed on a cement slab, that the construction folks couldn't seem to make it square. After about five times of trying to show them that it wasn't square, I gave up. With no overhand, the rain just runs inside. Lots of caulk and sealers later, we finally got it dry. So, just beware of what you are getting. At our former house, we did do a kit also, but it was much better 16 years ago. Oh, and Welcome!!!

Hi everyone. I'm brand new and cannot wait to get my first coop up and running this spring! I am a bit nervous though as I've never raised chickens before. Do you all have any advice or would recommend a place I could go to learn more? I'm in the metro Detroit area.
Welcome to our forum.
Most people here are experienced chicken keepers with good advice on both breeds and coops. Beware of advice that has been culled from random internet sources as a lot can be clickbait or recycled drivel. Beware of trolls.
Try to find out if your location is chicken friendly, many areas in metro Detroit are not. I live in one; my trial is scheduled for January.

You can PM me for more specifics if you like.

You're in my neck of the woods! It's a great place to raise chickens, although I'm focusing on my ducks at the moment. It's so freaking wet here in the spring, fall, and winter! I'd say to just start reading, make a list of the essentials, and jump in, but remember that there are people you can ask for help here and other places if you feel lost.
