Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We rarely actually see foxes in daytime, but DH saw one twice in our south pasture in mid-afternoon last week. So far no issues, I think our dogs, although fenced from the birds, are a deterent.
A friend had a fox take a nice SS hen the same week, during the day. They are out, and hungry. Aren't there enough rabbits? Mary

I have seen almost no rabbits this year, usually there are tons of them, to the point I shoot them if they are inside the yard fence. Found a fox kit dead on side of road a month or two ago.
Rabbit population down and canines up?<shrugs>
Have heard more fox calls out in woods early morns this year.
I never hear the coyotes, but I sleep hard.
All of the attempts here happened mid-afternoon.
Not sure if they come back at night, haven't seen any digging along fence/run fence lines. Glad I have a pretty secure run (am home most the time), and a fort knox coop.

I wonder if the new but format has helped inactivity across the site? It doesn't typically give me little red notifications unless I've gone and looked up the thread on the last few days. If I'm gone for a while it just relying on it, it goes down to notifications on only one thread. I assumed for a month or so that things were quiet, and now every one in a while if I remember i go and look up threads i haven't seen in a while and read PAGES of stuff I didn't get to hear about and receive red notifications for that page for a few days afterward only.

So no takers on helping move this weekend?
Too bad. Could have scouted out some of the deer trails in my backyard. Or ventured to the lake for goose hunting or fishing. Or even gone out on Saginaw Bay for some deeper water fishing.
On the way out, I saw Sand Hill Cranes, wild turkey, white tail deer, and a lot of small game too. Spooked up some small ground birds too. They could have been quail or bob-white. I'm not sure what they were because they moved so fast in dense cover.

On the plus side, the extra day down here helped me to get more junk out of Mom's house. Staging that stuff in the GC house. I think I now qualify for an episode of "Hoarders" with all of the boxes stacked in my living room. But what a garage sale that will be when I get it all moved.
I'm sure they will try to figure out how to ticket you for that. Or for a yard sale (Attractive Nuisance?)

Lots of young predators right now that are starting to go out on their own and looking for an easy meal. Soon the raptors will be migrating too, and the risk from the sky will increase as well.

First Pullet egg for this year today!!
20wo SLW 33g
Her 'twin' doesn't look anywhere near ready,
and the others are younger.
1 EE and 2 Marans are 18wks, 2 CCL are 17wks.
Started hatching late this year, won't do that again,
if at all possible.
