Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ran out of steam before getting all the ~foot of snow off the small shed.
Another storm coming wed-thu, 4 to 8 inches with localized amounts up to a foot.
Sun was out almost all day today, so got out to get some supplies.
I'm really tired of moving snow.:barnie

Sheesh, anyone out there know how to get the new BYC to let you know of ALL notifications on threads you follow/post on and not just the last two or three you've posted on in the last little while? I don't post much here, but reading Michigan happenings is fun. I should be being notified because I've posted several times on the Michigan Thread before, but I'm not unless it was one of the last three threads I've posted on. If no one knows, I'm going to start posting stupid chicken/duck/goose pictures on this thread of mine or of others once a week or so just so I stay notified.

There's more than several ways to track the threads you want to 'watch'.
I use the 'watched thread' button to top of page,
then click 'all watched threads' at the bottom of that page,
then saved that page to favorites bar on browser.
Just click that browser fav tab to see thread list.
Might diff if you are on phone or want email notfications.

Update on little rooster.

Only has two choices last night when I got home from work.
1. Bring him inside and get him warmed up and hope of the best.
OR
2. Euthanize him.
When I got home around 5 yesterday he was laying on his side and the bottom of his foot was frozen solid like a block of ice. I know pulling him from the rest of the flock and putting him in a warm house was not ideal but letting him suffer further is not acceptable. He's lost a fair amount of weight too probably due to his immobility. Within an hr of bringing him in he was moving around a little and eating and drinking. I know now that I brought him in he's going to have to stay in until the bitter cold weather passes. When he starts feeling good enough to crow in the house ill work on gettin him back out side.He got a bath this morning and I inspected his feet closely for any damage and couldn't find any still not sure why he's limping and why his foot had/has enough fluid in it to freeze the way it did.
I'm glad you updated us in him! I'm interested to hear how he does.

Rachel, you should post more often anyway! :D

You know the Pavilion at the park is quite nice, maybe we could have a Chickenstock wedding ;)
we might look into doing it at a park, just gotta see what our other options are right now. Amy heard back from this one barn location deal near Ann Arbor that's run by Zingerman's and they said that the wedding package there was 18K. :th
That's a whole lot of chicken feed there and I don't think that I could sell enough eggs to cover that.

Really hoping that it warms up soon. Our Amish roofing crew is supposed to show up Thursday to get started on the barn. They can probably do the south side of the roof no problem as the wind has blown off a lot the snow there. Its just the north side of the roof and the addition under that roof that still has a lot of snow on it. going to be a pain to shovel it off, and I wouldn't exactly want to take a snow blower to it either as there's some spots on the roof there that are really rotten. It might be all frozen, but I don't think I would want to trust it frozen.

this cold is a pain, have gotten out to take the dog for a walk every day so far, try to go out before to much wind picks up, we walk at least 3 miles a day . will be nice to not have to put so many cloths on:)
Bigmrg, don't know how far you are from Belding but there is a wedding barn on m44 that just started up last year they may be mor reasonable,......no wonder so many people are converting their barns, Really good money in that, who knew?!!
in case any one is worried about the dog he is a Lg. double coated, St. Bernard Australian shep. mix , he loves the cold.!!
If is is to cold or windy they probably won't start the roof, We had or house done in Dec. day they were supposed to come they canceled due to weather. I told them I didn't care if they waited till spring, I didn't want anyone falling off my roof.

Hope the little roo is improving. did not sound good:(

It's going to warm up to 'normal' temps next week. At least that's the current forecast. Here's hoping!
Mary
Looking forward to it!

Temps supposed to drop to the lowest yet this year over the next few days. Highs up here below zero.
Thank you for the dose of comparative gratitude. ;) Stay warm and safe.
