Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We got probably 2-2.5in yesterday. It BETTER all melt today because we are supposed to have outdoor baseball practice today.

I keep checking tsc for dark brahmas but they haven’t had any since mid March. I think one of my “sapphire olive eggers” might be a cockerel since most of the consensus about those is that they’re a blue sex-link and one definitely has a headspot and the start of some barring on the wings. Guess we will see as they grow. I don’t mind keeping a roo, I just don’t need 15 of them like I had last year.

I feel ya there! Grill one day snow blow the next! Pure Michigan baby!!

Michigander here! Go Blue, Kid Rock, Bob segar and apparently today more snow! Lol. Glad to see other Michigan folk on here and looking forward to swapping tips and being a successful Michigan Bird Hearder! Haha

Oh, and hi. I just discovered this thread. I am in the Kalamazoo area.

Welcome to you both!

We cook out on the grill all year round ;)

Haha, I can tell you all are from way farther south than here. But I'm not going to complain too much, my crocuses are finally up :) , at least in the 1/4 of the yard where the snow has melted. I saw some Robins yesterday, they must be cursing their timing.
In all of the three tsc's that I hit up here, none has ever had anything other than red sex links or red layers, black sex links, meat birds, mixed Bantams (all game birds) or ducks.
I did send out a Sand Hill preservation order. They have a new website and it is nice, they have a Blog and a latest news update. They are a small farm that has a huge selection of very interesting birds. They're not for everybody, because shipping is not guaranteed by a certain date, and is very dependent on what they are able to hatch each week. Plus Linda had some really severe health problems that have lingered on into this year, so they have been very short-handed.
I ordered Erminettes, Holland Barred, and Field Sussex. Should be interesting at least.

Sadly, my store has reached the point where chicks are starting to be mixed together in the brooders, due to a lack of space. Bantams are mixed with larger birds. We have one tub of ISA and one of ducks that remain unmixed. The other 4 tubs are pretty much a crap shoot for what you might get. And everything except the ducks has been marked down 50%.
I'm thinking about getting the 5 khaki campbell ducks in a few days if they are still there and marked down.

Unfortunately, my store is severely understaffed and there are only 2 of us who actually raise chickens. Chick Days are a great burden to some of the other employees, thus the mixed brooders. However, all of the chickies are well cared for.
