Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It is cold windy and damp here too. Current temp is 44'. Yesterday was a high of 70'.
I'll be spending a good part of today outside cleaning up this mess...

Tree trimmer friend was here on Thursday. You can see the hollowness of the tree by the garage. There was a dead one in the chicken run.
A couple of dropped pieces hit the chain link panels that I using to expand the run. No damage, just skewed them a bit. No harm done, I was just getting them lined up and level. Nothing was secure yet. The inner run wasn't harmed and no chickens were squished.

I'm starting to hate these Sapphire Gem hens. Six months old now and not a single egg. They are very flighty and great escape artists. One Houdini gets out nearly every day. Today she must have showed her sisters. All 5 are out of the run and "helping" me cut that wood.
Chickens! Gah! :barnie

Cut a 'stump', drive a couple nails in, and tell them what it's for ;)

Went to Fowl Fest yesterday, and had a good time. There was a huge Serama entry (club national meet, I think) and a nice Chantecler entry (also the club national meet) with really nice birds exhibited. :love I met some very nice people too. I don't ever plan to show my birds, but very much enjoy going to this show.

I went a couple of years ago (back when I still lived in the city). It was quite impressive and I met a bunch of nice people then. I thought about going on Saturday but decided to do chores around here to get ready for winter.

I have today off so I spent it cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood. I should go back out and finish up the wiring of the coop. I want to have a light and outlet hard-wired before winter. I don't care for an extension cord for the heated water fount. I did that last year...not the best way to winterize. I have all of the pieces that I need except for a round box for the overhead light. I'm going to use a reclaimed ceiling fan/light.

There are a few hours of daylight left so I better get busy.

What's a 'fart egg' ?!?!?!
Fairy, fart, wind, rooster eggs are usually from a tiny piece of tissue breaking loose from the reproductive tract, or an immature ova(yolk) and the body forms an egg around it. Color can be darker than 'normal' as the pigment coating released has to cover a much smaller area so is thicker. Can happen with any age layer, but more common with new or older layers.

I think it's explained in this excellent video, which is worth watching regardless:
