Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Stacykins, I don't know the person really. she's down near Fenton/Howell area.. the mother's name is "Triple S Farms Butterscotch" Not sure on the father. I know nothing about goats, so it's nice to know she has good confirmation. Thanks!

Thanks on the soap info, I'll do some research!

I don't have a really experienced eye with conformation, but I do think she is a very fine girl. She has amazing dairy structure, very fine boned and dainty. Her long neck and arrow strait back really stick out as great traits, too. If you were to take a picture from the side of her on level ground with her 'set up', that would really highlight her features. I bet her rump is not actually steep at all, it seems a little bit in that picture, but it could be how she was standing because her feet aren't placed evenly in that picture. So yea, you got a winner, methinks!

I place both deer and steelhead carcasses in my chicken's run and it is amazing how much they can pick from the bones. I also feed the hard fat and all the trimmings from my deer. Fortunately they will be getting some today and more tomorrow when I butcher.

Hello everyone! Newbie here in southeastern Michigan!
Hello mrcush!! Welcome
I went out to tend the turkeys and found my best turkey hen had blown her vent out....... badly enough to warrant putting her down. She was my brooder girl and a good mom, she was also the friendliest one I had..

Some days this farming stuff sucks.
So sorry Silly, I agree sometimes farming is sad
OH, call me at 231-828-5609 or email at [email protected] I just don't have time to log on here too often and the thread always moves so fast I'll miss you!

P.S. How's the ACD Kimmie?
Hi John, I need to re-home Tommie because she has took to nipping my husband trying to control him I guess. She is such a good dog otherwise. Not happy about it.

Welcome Bio,
There are a few of us SE chicken keepers here. Most tend to keep a low profile since it seems to be a criminal activity in some communities.

I've been "outed" already so I don't mind letting folks know that I have hens here in the yard.

Welcome and join in often. We will have the Chickenstock event next year after details become available in January.

Thanks! Yeah, I had a feeling that might be the case. I read about a couple in Ypsi (downtown) who wanted to raise chickens somewhere else but couldn't sell their house, so they lobbied with the city to allow it, a bit of a struggle there. Also, Chickenstock, sounds intriguiging...

Hi Bionatural, welcome to BYC and the Michigan thread

Lady, crack open several of the windows, ideally a few of them away from the roost - you need more circulation. It is not yet so cold that the coop should be sealed up so tight. Also, clean out under roosts each day to remove the wet bedding, or install poop boards to help make cleaning easier.

Thanks, fan! Quite an active forum here.
