I have seen dogs die of food poisoning before - one dog I knew died of salmonella from eating raw contaminated eggs.
If you feed the dam raw meat that has bacteria in it, the puppies WILL be exposed by their mother licking them and herself. You can not tell if meat has bacteria on it just by looking or smelling it. Ground meat is more dangerous, as it has a much larger surface area for bacteria to grow on.

That's just awful... That is actually the only thing I have never fed my dogs. I don't agree with the "just throw them the egg whole in the shell, and let them eat it" theory. Especially since that is usually INSIDE the egg, can't wash it off of the shell... not always, but usually is in the egg before the shell is put on...

As for ground... I don't do the ground meat either. I have gotten ill off of ground myself. I come the conclusion that the meat isn't always the freshest mix... SO, have never given ground to the dogs.

This is off the chicken topic but I know many of you do some great baking. Last December 27 my dh stopped eating cookies and drinking pop. He has lost 40+ pounds since then doing only that. So this year I need some healthy non cookie snacks to make for Christmas. Is there such a thing?

Is this just non cookies or all sweets such as candy, too?
Either way, I'll share this little one which isn't a cookie, but does contain a hershey kiss and depending which way you make it, an m&m.

Get a bag of pretzels (I use the circle shaped ones, but you can use any shape really)
Place them on a cookie sheet and place a kiss in the center of each pretzel. Set the oven to a low temp (I usually do 250) and put the sheet in the oven for about 2 minutes. (don't go over or the kiss will melt all over, you just want them soft enough to squish down.)
Take out of oven and immediately place m&m or nut on top of kiss and push down. Then just wait for them to firm back up.

My DH likes me to use a caramel kiss and top with a pecan. (kind of like a turtle)
I like a regular kiss with a peanut butter m&m.
The combination choices are just endless with these and they are really good.

I got sick after eating ground beef too... I was the only one that handled it before it was cooked so I must have gotten sick that way. Now I hate to eat it. I would only ever feed it to the dogs cooked.

I don't feel it is worth the risk to either mom or pups to try a raw diet right now. Maybe a little while down the road. Hopefully all the pups will be at their new homes by Christmas and Mama will be with her new owner as well ( a friend has already claimed her)

Those are to die for!!!! Especially the turtle ones!!!! The carmel filled kisses melt much faster because the carmel inside is already liquid.

He does candy - calls peanut m&m's his vitamins, but actually counts out how many he allows himself each day. Those look great and simple too! They will go on my list to try. I was digging through recipes and I think I will also do the sugared almonds.

Too early for the dog to be endlessly barking at shadows. Something outside has Lacey, my mother's foxhound, all riled up. Saw no eyeshine or anything weird when I used the spotlight, though.
