Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I bet that roof was fun to deal with.
The run? I can reach the top with a broom, no problem, so I just kept it cleaned off.

I can reach all but the top of the coop roof too. The way it's built, it's strong enough for DH to stand on, so it'll handle a lot of snow.

I'm replacing the tarps on the run with some polycarbonate sheets soon. Maybe there'll be enough light to get the pullets to lay this fall/winter...? :fl

One of them has dark pink wattles and comb, but they're still quite small.

Put the bales on the ground against the bottom edge of your coop walls, outside the run. IF you out them inside the run the birds may tear at them, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe @RaZ has a picture of what he does.

As far as chains, it depends on the size of your tractor and the tires. If you have turf tires, or a small tractor, you may need them. They have not been necessary for my Kubota, but it is a 3830 and a beast.

No salt or snow melting substances where the chickens could have access to them.

Hi, I’m new to the MI thread. I’ve lived here since marrying my husband in 2001. I’ve had chickens going on three years now and still feel like a newbie. This past summer we let two of our broody hens raise chicks. They’ve been such a joy to watch grow. Here’s a pic of two of my 4 month old roos.

Hey there! Beautiful birds they look lovely

95% done with my new project... A monitor roof* for the main part of the run. I'll need DH to help get it up there, and hopefully that happens on Saturday. Then I need to put up the polycarbonate panels.

Here's what I learned...

Make a fixture to hold things that aren't flat/square/90 degree things. That would have helped so much, especially since I'm doing this by myself.

Wood is not metal. Just because I designed and drew it up a certain way doesn't mean that edges that line up on the drawing will line up as pieces of wood. Particularly wood that was formerly a pallet. :lau

Pictures eventually when it's in place. From far enough away that you won't be able to see the pieces that don't line up really well! :)

*Thank you @3KillerBs for the idea!
