Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I didn't know that either, however if you bury it, it will still get into the water; won't it? especially with wells? I can put it in the pail it comes in and put with trash.

Surface runoff into standing bodies of water is the biggest risk to wildlife. Or them eating the stools, disgusting as that sounds.

If buried it could get into the groundwater, which is primarily an issue if too near a well (surface runoff can also contaminate wells), that is why there are strict regulations about having livestock housed too near wells.

Today is DH's birthday. We're the same age for a month, then I get older. :lau

The DNA thing through Ancestry.com has proved to be very interesting. We bought the 6 month membership and have been tracing our respective family trees. DH has done a lot more than I have. ...
Cool! My brother is deeply into that. He latest find is voyageur contracts our ancestor and his brother signed in 1810. Not for the Hudson Bay Company; the contract specified where they could go and specifically, they could not go too far in one of the directions because that was Hudson Bay territory.

They had two year contracts because it took so long to get out there... it was to Manitoba at that time. Or at least theirs was. He was the steersman on that trip.

Extra interesting because this line took the longest to unravel - between the French language on everything and the differences in how Canada did things, and different cultural practices, it was difficult.

Keep an eye on the BP, Dreamz. I check mine 2 times a day. I'm on a lose dose of HBP medicine as a precaution, says my cardiologist. At the doc office today it was 118/64. A little low on the second number. Let's hope that everyone stays healthy this year.

I'm liking this new wood stove. I can put whole logs in it and they burn more consistently than the old stove. The firebox is 4.67 square feet. I still had hot embers at 3:30 this morning.

Much warmer here and less windy too. It's almost pleasant outside. Thought about splitting some wood today. Maybe tomorrow. I'll do the cat boxes and start rearranging the living room. Or take a nap. Yeah. Nap sounds good.
Will do Raz. Thank you. I am hoping not to have to be on meds. Got some beretine pills today. It say it is good to help with BP. I think it is the stress.

Well, they had cancelled the Zumba class for tonight. So I guess if all stays ok, I will go to Drumfit tomorrow. Nice day out today. The girls had a few hours out until I saw fromKitchen windoa a hawk fly by, so I ran to get them in. They are all so disciplined.

Love you all!

My dog likes to snack on kitty crayons. There is a name for poop eating but I forget what it is. While as disgusting as it is, my vet said it won't hurt the dog. I stop her when I catch her. Right now she is eating some live catnip that I grow.

As for genealogy, around a year after my Dad died, some guy in Germany contacted me claiming to be a distant relation. He had been researching the family tree for years (way before Ancestry data bases). He sent me a culmination of his research. While interesting I also thought that it was rather intrusive. His research claimed a direct link to the first man ever electrocuted. Plus a couple of reports that named my grandmother as a suspect in an unsolved murder around the same time as the execution. Information that I could do without.

I think someone here needs a new nickname. How about DizzyDreamz? :D
Just kidding. We all love you, Dreamz. Glad to hear that you haven't had any more dizziness. Stay healthy.

It's a balmy 30 degrees here. And with the sun shining it seems almost pleasant.

Today, like yesterday, the chickens were outside, being chickens. Scratch, scratch, peck, peck. Waddle around. Stand on the log. Run up to the door when I bring them chickie snack. I wish winter were like this more than what it's been, with single digit temps and double digit wind speeds!

I split a number of cut logs today. Worked out to be a face cord of red oak for the stove. Nice and seasoned and ready to burn. I took a little jaunt in the woods and spied several downed trees read to be harvested. Just have to drag the wood back home to cut. A few will have to be cut where they lay. (Have chain saw, will travel) lol.

A couple of photos of the main heat source for my home:
