What did you do?

Told the tenants to stop using extension cords until I could get the place rewired. It was worth it, but expensive.

Art has a good point, if you could have your electrical box inspected that would be a good idea. Someone may have replaced some of the breakers with the wrong type which can cause a lot of issues.

Or they may have been overloaded and tripped.
Good to understand how some of these things work.

When I built my garage I hired a local electrical contractor to do the heavy work. They upgraded the service to the house to 200 amps then ran the underground service to the garage 150 feet of trenching through rock infused clay. They put a 100 amp box in and wired one receptacle. It was all up to code and passed the county inspection.
Since then I have added 5 banks of overhead lights, 8 exterior lights, and receptacles on every wall. I rarely have to use an extension cord. I did all of the wiring myself and I can say that I was nervous every time I added a new circuit. I have a healthy fear/respect of electricity.
The nice thing about doing it all myself is that each circuit is colour coded and labeled in the circuit panel and at the light or outlet. Makes it easy to see how much load is on the circuit breaker and where any issue may develop. I'm pretty proud of myself for accomplishing this work. I was way out of my comfort zone.

We have done some simple wiring projects here, but have a licensed electrician do the 'big stuff' and check all our work. Up to code, much safer!

Don't be silly. I am not scared of 110volts. I changed a few light switches here to put wifi switches and make them work with Alexa without turning any power out. Ground is the most important one. Rubber shoes and good pliers with a rubber handcover will do for me. Howevet, I almost fried on 220v. Decided to change the end of a 220v plug of an electric stove I had in Texas and it sent me across the kitchen to the dinning room and wet my pants. Never again will mess with electric stoves nor dryers, lol
That what I want to have done after rewiring the house. It sucks to ryn extension cords, even if they are contruction heavy duty.
Raz, do you or any of you have a water supply to the barn or coop area? Hate having to do everything from my kitchen and bleach everything constantly.

Electricity is Egyptian language to me for sure, lol I cannot even figure out about an electric fence.

Frost free hydrants are the answer for having water at the coop, barn, whatever. A trench below the frost line, from water source to best location, and that hydrant. love them, we have four here. A pain to dig the trenches and fill them in, but convenient water all year is great!
