Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Nice easy day at work. Truck was the smallest one we have ever had. The 3 of us had it unloaded and put away in 40 minutes. We even kind of milked it out a bit.

The team leader for the garden centre let me know that there is more stuff that they want hauled away. Some nice metal racks that I can use / repurpose. Plus 3 heavy composite box things that I can certainly make good use of. I'll bring every thing home tomorrow. I just need to repair the trailer wiring today so I have lights. I don't want to risk a ticket for trailer lights not working. At least the weather is decent enough to do that job this afternoon.

Swung by TSC for chicken feed. Looked at the chicks but nothing followed me home. They have ducks and that got me thinking that maybe I have room for a couple to go along with the drake and 2 hens that I currently have. Going to think about that some more...

This April Fools Day joke has gone on for 3 days now.
...and it will continue here. Winter weather advisory for tonight, and up to 4" of snow. It'll all melt later in the day, because it's supposed to get up in the 40s.

DH got the rototiller started for me! YAY! It's been sitting for 2+ years, and I had nagging doubts about it. I got the first pass in one of my gardens done, and some in the other. I have leaves piled so thickly that I can't till them in; they just bunch up in front of the tines.

I got my new blueberry bushes planted in their boxes. I bought a pH meter, so I checked the pH of the compost I put in the box, thinking it would be acidic, since I have a lot of oak leaves. Nope! 7, neutral, and waaay to alkaline for blueberries. Ok, how about places in the garden? And the blueberry bed? Everything was 7 or just below. Wow, no wonder the blueberries never did much berry-ing. I bought a bag of sulfur to acidify the soil, and I'll be spreading that out this week. Might get another 30 lb bag too.

I am not sure about planting. My blueberries completely died. I need to get more raspberry bushes. One si not enought since the girls always find a way of eating the few berries leaving me none, lol
Should I plant potatoes and carrots and corn on the ground having moles around or should I invest in raised beds?
