Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just got caught up here, didn't get notifications (again!). DH is back in the hospital again too, so I'm tired and distracted...
Five week old Cackle chicks are doing great, this week's Cackle chicks also doing well, and more coming next week! Fun!
I will have birds to bring to Chickenstock, more info later when I figure out who it will be.
Poor Snowbird! Glad he's doing better.

Chickenstock??? We're actually having it this year??? Dang, guess I should pop in here more often. Amy has been on me about maybe getting some silkies this year, and I would kinda like to get 2 pullets. Kinda thinking that I need to cull some more of my slackers and maybe go with a second batch of hens here, been stuck with store bought eggs for too long lately.

Well, Lupita has been sitting on real eggs since the 17th. All big girls eggs and she is fearless. She does come out in the morning for about 4minutes and then back on.

Last evening Monica was weird, lethargic and wouldn't move. Sat her on epsom salt for 40 min.

And this morning she passed her egg.

Out of the best of intensions, Dh burned most of the chicken manure from all winter. 😢😢😢
And about half of the leaves collected for the garden last fall that would have made about 9 parts dry leaves to 1 part chicken manure.😢 The other half of the leaves were already turned in.

Ds-in-law has been ill. He and dd asked me to come so I left last Thursday. I got home last night, I found Dh tired, sunburned, and upset about his lawn not being perfect. Because he spent the most of weekend and evenings in the garden instead of working on the lawn. He figures the leaves already turn in made it take an extra 10 hours. He is trying not to be upset about any of it because he is considering the project a Mother's Day gift. Sigh.

To be fair, I was about two weeks behind in getting the garden ready to plant even before I left. I wanted to be planting most things last week or this week - still early for here. I would have either been planting late or planting in cleared islands and hopefully clearing the rest faster than the plants grew.

I know how that goes.

Sorry you lost your chicken manure. Why did he burn it? I can imagine that stinks pretty badly.

I'll be trying to plant the rest of my tomatoes today. I sure am feeling my wrists and thumbs today from digging and weeding yesterday.

He didn't know it was there. It was well mixed with the leaves. He was burning the leaves.

Last fall, I piled all the leaves into the garden, deepest nearest the gate. All winter, I threw all the droppings on top of the leaves just inside the gate, stirring them in occasionally. This spring, I thought it was more important to get the weeds out of the rest of the garden than make the compost pile look like one (and move it out of the way).

Good luck with your tomatoes!!
