Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Quote: I agree with Opa. I also try to "store" them at 55-60*. However I can tell you that a friend wanted to do a Science project for her kids. They wanted to take 6 of my eggs that had been washed with raw water and then refrigerated. I gave her 6 of my finest pure bred MUTT eggs. Well out of 6 one got damaged one egg and one failed to start.

Lisa and girls - is it possible Rotunda was seriously obese for a chicken? Maybe her heart couldn't take it. I'm thinking of cornish x, etc. But I suppose it could affect any "rotund" chicken.

It is possible. She was one of my adopted girls and where she was before I don't think she was getting enough food. Might have caused her to over eat here because they always have plenty of food available plus I supplement their diet quite a bit with fruit, veggies, oatmeal, etc. All of them are free range and get quite a bit of exercise so I just don't know.

Not a bit. My hen didn't make it and died last night. I had a few tears over her... she was my last golden girl... a golden laced Polish named Bea. My only broody Polish. I spoke to the vet again about doing swabs but he said her symptoms were too vague to be called respiratory and that it would have to be narrowed down to actually test for something. I noticed that she was very thin. My birds just haven't seemed to regain their weight after this molt. So I guess wait and see if anyone acts "off".

I am very thankful we didn't get any snow this time. Although we haven't seen the sun in about 3 weeks now. I had high hopes to see some this morning since the sky is mostly clear, however there is a cloud bank to the east where the sun should be. There is also a cloud bank to the west so even if the sun does appear it won't be for long.

Those puppy pictures were adorable. Our dog is headed to the vet today. Leo is an 8 year old Boxer and he has not been acting normal. I spoke to the vet on the phone and told him what I thought was going on. He told us to bring in a urine sample first. The test actually confirmed what I had said so he is headed in today. Hopefully he will behave himself.

I am so sorry. Poor girls. I bawled my eyes out! I hope the rest of your girls get the weight back on.

I've been thinking about the past month and the stress my poor birds have had. Finishing up molting, dog attack, coop filled with snow, snow storm that they were locked up for 3 days, last storm iced everything and took down the run area. They have gone from all over the yard birds to only in the coop in the past two weeks. I think they need some spoiling and maybe a bag of BOSS.

We had sun ALL day yesterday. I was a reptile and sat and soaked it up all day.

Dog to the vet cost a lot and didn't give us any answers. It did however rule out many things like Cushing's and cancer that were at the top of the list; also liver failure, diabetes, infection and anemia. But unless we do more tests we have no idea what it might be. He will continue to drive me crazy with continual drinking and having to go out potty 7 -10 times day or night.

My hatching eggs I have tried to keep under 7 days. The only shipped eggs I have had good success with were Showgirls that 6 out of 7 hatched.

You had me scared that we made someone mad! LOL I am going to pick up an old fish tank today to use as my brooder. :)

So I think my girls are a little chilly today. I turned the heat lamp on just for a few hours this morning then turned it off when I gave them their warm oatmeal. I'm curious after all this snow if they will come out of their run? Hmmmm, do I try???
