I think this wmis a coyote that decided to check out my property. Husband came out with shotgun and me with my 9mm. He got lost but have been up at night and checking every camera.
Girls came out to the light snow on the ground and were fine. But we got then in by 4pm.
Darn JLo is buzzing again to be a mama. Not happening yet.

My spring chickens have been integrated with my established chickens for some time, but I was allowing them to sleep in separate coops at night, because integration was rough. Now, with winter on our heels, I was ready for them to start roosting together - so I closed up the small coop, denying them access. This is the younger girls' 3rd night in the big coop - and the 1st time they put themselves in on their own. I'm so proud of them. They are finally a happy flock ♡

Button is still laying. I keep telling her to stop, molt, and grow feathers! Stormy, my other Blue Australorp, has finally started molting for real. The rest of the birds are either done, or past the worst of it.

One of the Black Australorps' faces is red, along with her comb and wattles. She's one of the three who will be 5 years old in March. I'm hoping she will start up laying after the Solstice (24 days!!!!) and inspire the rest of them to get going again.

My younger bantam (SLW) has continuously laid this year, even through her molt. I have one other hen who is laying, the rest are coming out of their molts or in the midst of it. Finally finished winterizing the coop and run yesterday, just in time for the snowstorm (Thursday night through next week apparently).

I've noticed that same bantam, who was at the bottom of the pecking order has started to push the older ladies around, and now it seems she's at the top. Not sure why they decided to rearrange themselves, but the big roost is almost completely empty at night now, except for a couple girls at the very end and the bantam and rooster snuggled together in the middle. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I made apple scrap vinegar this year and I really like it! The pH is 2.8 and it tastes like vinegar, but not as harsh as ACV. I put together my fire cider today and have 4 bottles of vinegar left.

Prepping for Thanksgiving host today. Dunno how we winded up hosting cuz we're hosting Christmas, too. But it's nice to have family coming here this year!
