Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I live near Perry, about 55 miles from Novi, where I work, now part time. The rural areas west of Brighton are your best bets for how you want to live, and the drive doesn't get 'busy' until after Brighton, which is about 20 minutes west of Novi.
Also land/ homes west of Brighton will be more affordable.
The Howell area, maybe. Williamston, very nice, anything fairly near I96 is doable.
Zoned 'agricultural'!!!

Oh, yes, I agree! Williamston is very nice! Old Nation Brewery is also there. Howell is alright. The downtown area is one of the best downtown areas in the country. The rural areas are good around there, too. How the heck did I forget about Howell? I used to live there, too.

Going to Novi, west on the I96 corridor is easiest, so any where (researched!) either north or south along that road might be good, especially west of Brighton. It's a drive, yes, but what you need is rural, zoned agricultural, and especially if you don't have young school age children, school districts won't matter so much.
We bought a house with 50 acres years ago here, for the same price as a similar house on a city lot in suburbia that year.

You will be selling chicks, right? So it depends on what breeds you have, and/ or are they barnyard mixes? Quote some reasonable price after you look at current hatchery prices.
If you are selling them hatching eggs, at least grocery store prices, or something, depending on your breeds.
And we just went from $4 to $5 for a dozen eggs.

When I need to clean off the run roof, I use a push broom to pull the snow down/off. It freaks the chickens out, but it does the job well.
I took the snow shovel to it. I didn't get it all off but hopefully it took some weight off the middle where it was sagging. Looks like 3 years might be the max on the DIY roof. Gonna have to look into replacing it before next winter. Plus the roof needs more of a slant to shed water anyways. I just need to figure out how much in materials i'll need lol.
