Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I had mentioned before taking orders for tote bags... like this one... for CS
They start at $18 and get cheaper the more we order!!
They are BIG totes! Perfect for gathering all of your goodies!!!

Who would order one?
I could go with a smaller sized tote... It would not have the black bottom or handle... but they would be cheaper...
Small bags are 14x14x3" and are $13
Deluxe are 19x15x6" and are $16
Two-tone deluxe are 19x15x6 and are $18

Let me know your thoughts!
Are they made in the USA?

With all of the sawdust I'm making, I think I will add it to the coop floor. I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

The bags are cool! I'd buy the deluxe one.

I have a dog house in the run filled with straw, so if ever a chicken got left out, she would have a place to go. I also have my rabbit hutch open, so they could go hang in there if need be. Sam's story of finding a frozen chicken one winter made me make sure they have a place to go to if left out. I do a head count when putting them in, but never know.....

Baby, it's cold out there! That wind is WICKED!

Sorry... My brain is to fried to write a novel right now. Lol. How are ya Juise? Was thinking about you the other day actually, we are painting... Got my boy an art set and easel for Christmas.

Haha, it's okay. We're doing alright, we've had the flu, and croup, but we were doing much better by the holidays, so I'll take it. :p We'll have to get together again soon, while I was telling Kaia what family was going to be at one of the Christmas get-togethers, straight out of left field, she was like, "But will Aiden be there?" lol. Sorry, kid.
I suppose that chickens might ingest salt granules much as they would any grit. However I doubt if they could eat enough to create a problem. A chicken never eats more than a small amount of grit s I can't imagine the salt would be any different.

Thanks! I wasn't really worried about them walking through it, it just made me wonder if they'd be eating it, and I had heard salt is deadly for chickens.

also glad you asked that question, hate to use salt, also not good for plants

Oh, I know! Luckily most of my gardens are not very near the driveway, or I would worry about that more.

Clay cat litter can't be composted and turns into a sticky clay mess when wet.

Thanks, I thought I had heard you couldn't compost cat litter before, but I wasn't sure if it was actually the litter itself, or the cat poop that you didn't want in your compost. :) I've been really happy with the litter we're using now, it doesn't get nasty and mushy when wet, but that is with cats, not sure how it would stand up to what the chickens can do, even in one night!

Jusie, nice to see you back! I wouldn't worry about the salt either. If you're still uncomfortable, get some play sand to put on the ice, it will help with traction..... which I wish I had when I slipped on the ice feeding the goats this morning..... I was SO hoping I didn't land on any of the pooh cause I had my work clothes on! other than a pending bruise on my backside, I was pooh free! Phew!! LOL!

Thank you! Nah, I can take you guys' word for it, I was just still nervous with only one person saying not to worry about it, and them being someone I didn't know. :) Geez, glad you are okay, lol, I hadn't thought about poop, you've just put a whole new terror into slipping on the ice, hahaha.

The recycled newspaper stuff is OK but kind of pricey. Same for corn cob litter; good by pricey. It may be too late this year, but you can get shelf material that has a coated surface that is easy to clean (can't think of the name of it right now). I used that and it is very easy to clean.

In the last couple of weeks, my egg yolk are not as orange as they are in summer. Still a nice yellow but not as dark. The lack of bugs and live greens is noticeable in the colouration. Still better than store bought, eh?

Y'all have a nice day, it's very sunny and cold here but I'm going out!

Eurgh, maybe I will just go dry for the winter, then. The sand is nice for cleaning, but mostly I like it for its moisture absorption, especially in the winter, when it really matters. In reality, though, the ventilation should be enough, it just gave me extra security.

Ours are not nearly so orange, either, but they are still much better than store bought in a million ways.

We are going out, too, cold and windy or not that sunshine is irresistible.

That's a good idea, I am going to set something up. I always do a head count, too, but a couple nights ago, I was startled after having thought everyone was accounted for, and another chicken wandered in. I must have accidentally counted one twice, and I only have 11 chickens! No one has been shut out before, but it really drove home the fact that it can happen, even if you think you are being careful. When the door has blown shut and they couldn't get in before I went out to lock up, they usually squeeze on top of the wood pile between the barns, it wouldn't be too difficult to make a shelter there.

Cafe' Press is a US owned and based printing co, they could do a custom job for you I believe.

The bags are made in india and china though

All of the made in US companies that I have found have min orders of 100 and only one color prints...
I have used the company that I made the design in before and was very happy with the results, that is why I chose them...

Well I am done for today with the wood fun. As I was stacking some, Majick the Wonder Dog, decided to walk on the pond ice. So he went for a swim and I got wet fetching him out.

I'll go back out in a bit and put away the tools and stuff. Right now a nice hot shower is in order.

Tap, so glad your son is on the mend.
Opa, prayers that Garanny will be ok and that her MRI will go well. I hope too that you are over your cold.
Raz, looks like you have plenty of work there.
Daron, that soup looks wonderful. I hope it helps you get over your cold.

Yesterday I found out that I have pnuemonia. I thought it was just a sinus infection.

Also, the other day I was watching the wild birds at my feeder and thought to myself that I was sure happy to see the red breasted woodpecker at the feeder so much. A short time later a small hawk was on the front walk having it for dinner.
