Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Nova- Are you too far from Frankenmuth for eggs? I'm about 8 miles from there. They would either be cochin, cochin crossed with either Jersey giant or Black orp (I don't remember which the hen is) or silkie/cochin or just silkie.

I've missed you guys too. Haven't quite made it through all the posts yet, but since I'm still recovering and can't do much "heavy" work, I have tons of time for reading!
welcome back! love your avatar, very spring like, Hope you are feeling much better
Thanks all for the input on my hen. If anyone has an apron pattern they could share it would be great! Hope all the birds are well. Somehow my coop door got closed today so when I finally got around to going out to lock up around 9 none of them were indoors. Thankfully all but one was in the same spot at the back of the coop so as I picked them up and stacked them on shoulders getting 4 or 5 per trip I finally got them all in and found the lone hen on the fence. Gotta love it!
good thing it is winter, more predators in the spring
You can buy heavy-duty poultry netting in smaller pieces on Ebay, the heavier weight is worth it, I have seen large hawks bounce off it like a trampoline.
I got mine at Low's, it holds a lot of weight.the first yr we used it, we didn't have enough support. and the first heavy snow took it down 6ft to the ground, broke some 2x4's and some zip ties, but as soon as I got the snow off the netting sprung back up with no tears. We have had hawks sit on top of the run and watch, but could see no IN and left....if you have sections that run across you can tie them together with zip ties....Love who ever created those things, I use them all the time
LOVE your hens!!

Have a good day all,

weather is to be nice

The biggest hawk I saw flapped up into a tree next to the pen and just sat there fora while - you could see he was scratching his head and thinking "What the heck??" -definately my laugh for the day. He sure thought he had a chicken dinner!
