TSC chick days are in March.Hatchery catalogs are out,

CONGRATULATIONS on the piglets ,sweet

I was wondering about Opa and Granny today also, hope they are OK
will pray they are
Snowflake thank you i will look those diagnosis up..
.
fuzzybutt-Thank you- its more then one of the hens that are picking on her.. and i really think there is some underlying illness... thing is she fits the bill for so many ailments.. I know what you mean about a mean hen..I did that once, i culled a mean hen, turns out another took her place.. then i sold that one. I think this poor gal may be suffering. not just from the meanies, but something else.. Ive been up in the air since i got her. maybe i need a rooster. to put these girls in their place..

OK so like I said, I have been loosing birds for 2 yrs. in 2011, took some to the vet, he thought strongyles and cocci , treated for those, birds kept dying,Thought, maybe just to week????
2012 it started again, with new chicks,......older birds from hatchery vaccinated for Mareks and cocci, are not getting sick, just new chicks........first chick to get sick this year showed classic sign of Mareks, paralysis, 1 leg front 1 leg back, after doing some more research and talking to a BYC-er, I ordered Mareks vac. gave to all birds. still having birds die. symptoms, look puffy, sick, pale comb, very thin, pick them up and it is a shock to see how thin they get in a short time. It could still be Mareks, as they were all infected before they were vaccinated.

not knowing finely got to be to much so I E-mailed Dr. M Fulton, from MSU...He suggested bringing in 3 birds to see if there is more then 1 thing going on. It could take up to 2 weeks to get the results, ,,,cost $170, for all 3 birds. a ridiculous amt. of $$ but I had to know, so I decided to bite the bullet,
will let you know what is going on when I hear.
Dr. Fulton was very helpful and will E you back if you have questions about your chickens, his E-mail is [email protected]....
Thank you CG for his E-mail and ##,
Definately would be interested what they say.. I am sorry to hear of your loss.

Congratulations on the job Stacey
I wasn't expecting them till this weekend..CHICKS ARE HATCHING!!.... have 2 out of the shell and one working on it... One has a bad leg and I may have to cull it unfortunately. I'll give him a few days to see if he can work it out. Had to call off work (may go in later) so I can get them some food. I'm pulling the chicks as they hatch cause I added some at different intervals... and there are turkey eggs in there as well. The other eggs aren't doing much, but I swear I see tiny jiggles in some. This is the first time I've hatched any so it's exciting for me! Will post a couple picts later.... off to TSC!
If its straddle legged you can fix it.easily
i would like adult birds but i would be interested in poults too!
Have you tried craigslist & bestfarmbuys.com?

Aint funny Chick!!!
Who dumped the poop machine in my yard?? Come on fuss up!!
Cant believe it....... I rehome 2 goosers to Keyt and look out my backdoor and another one is out there!!!! Hope its a female. Breeding season with 2 males aint fun.

So anybody want a goose? I can do a package deal with a Marans rooster lol!!!
What kind of goose is it? What color? But I really don't need another rooster, unless you would like to trade ,I'll give you 2,3,4 roosters for you one.

I envy you guys who are getting new birds this spring!
I'm seriously thinking about refreshing my flock. A few girls are nearly 3 years old and not laying like they used to. The "new" ISA browns produce, but they are not friendly and tend to bully the other girls.

I think a new batch of friendly, laying birds are needed here.

Happy to give away goose only!!!
It looks like a young Toulouse. Grey/taupe color with white belly. Dainty in face and bill area so guessing female. The Toulouse I had was a good egg layer.
I will take pictures after work but I do need to ask around to see if anybody is missing her. I dont remember seeing any other crazie gooser owers close to me and they are not easy to hide lol,

Tap I keep seeing russian orloff eggs on the swap thread and thinking of you

I really want more. They are some of the coolest birds I've had. They are outside everyday sun, rain, snow or sleet and are all super nice and great at foraging. The only downside is mine are 9 months old now - rooster just started crowing and girls show no sign of eggs.

I hear they lay well... once they start.

I think we will start with a small batch of eggs in the incubator - maybe 8. Smaller batching end up being friendlier because they get more attention. My son has to pick out what breed to hatch for his 4-H project and showmanship this year. Whatever he chooses will be our first batch. I'm ready now!! but he hasn't made his mind up yet, too many choices.
