Alright. I have a bunch of veggie scraps that I am wanting to give the ladies today, but they won't come out of the coop, and I don't want to just dump it in on the floor. I've got a number of those plastic net-like bags from citrus fruit in my cupboard.......can I put all the scraps in that and hang in in there?

they will eat it off the ground, I would worry about them eating the nylon netting.Although I think people put a head of cabbage in one.soooo

Just sitting here this morning drinking coffee and watching the wild turkeys in the back yard. 20-25 were about 30' from my window and another 10-15 were 200' away scratching under the choke cherry tries. When that group suddenly took wing and flew up into the trees I wonder what had spooked them. Moments later my question was answered when a large prime coyote came out into the mowed area. He stood there a few minutes and then disappeared into the brush. In a matter of minutes the turkeys flew back down. I doubt that coyotes are very successful hunting adult turkeys.

Nova, I have several "house" chickens and I've never had any problems with dust or odor. I'm not possitive but I think the temperature of the freezer might have something to due with that.

I put my scraps in an old enamel pan but they usually pull them out to claim them and run off with them and set on the floor anyway to eat them... so it really doesn't matter too much, imho.

I would like to vaccinate, but the vaccine has been on backorder. Now Jeffers has it, and I placed an online order, but then they called and wanted another $12 shipping on top of the $12.95 vaccine shipping I had already paid, and I told them No Way - I hate a bait-and-switch. If I can find it elsewhere for a reasonable shipping fee I will probably order some, but I have chicks due next week and it may be too late to vaccinate them.

You do realize they spend all day looking for things to eat out of the dirt, right?

I toss everything on the ground. I mean, we're talking about creatures that depend on eating some dirt in order to digest food. I would personally worry about them eating the plastic netting.

My house chicken has an odor and dust issue.

I dusted him with herbs, spice and sauce and now I'm getting a savory, mouth-watering aroma from him.

I bought our chicks from Family Farm and Home, so they're from Townline. I realized I've just assumed that they were given a vaccine before leaving Zeeland. Is this a safe assumption?
