Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

The current avatar is a picture taken after a fire on a brutally cold day in 1976.

It's time to be up and rarin' to go. Hope just grumbled something to the contrary as she walked by. Definately not a morning person.
very cool picture and I bet story, I am glad you were no hurt, that explains the ice pore Hope this is the day she doesn't have to baby sit right?? She deserves to sleep in. Twins are a handful even for a young person.

need some advice on frost bite, my rooster is going to lose some points I think, not looking good, I have been keeping a heavy ointment on it similar to bag balm,(watkins petro carb)

He had some blood on his head, behind the comb yesterday, not sure if a hen was pecking at the ointment,or from the frost bite,or the other rooster, although I haven't seen the roosters go at it very much, for the most part they get a long well, 28 hens between them.
Any how, my question is, should I continue to put ointment on the comb

I was just reading about using the Unpasturized Apple Cider Vinegar as the starter. I think I might try that. Sounds really easy.

I feed everything FF, although I'm not sure how fermented it always is. The thread on FF is very helpful. I use Braggs to start mine, its really expensive around here but you don't need a lot. I've also got some vinegar brewing. Its very easy but needs warmth to work, and they are right about using a "holy" pail to be able to drain off the excess liquid and use it to jump start the next batch. Otherwise you end up with very watery feed.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the input! I had Kelly pick up some of the UP/ACV last night at Meijer. I am going to bring some of my feed in today to do a small batch until I get my larger set up ready. Sounds like it is very cost effective too. I am on the fermented feed page too lots of reading to be done LOL

Happy Groundhog Day.

Kind of hard to see shadow when we're so cloud covered! It's softly snowing. But at least the wind has let up!

It might be better if you apply a thin coat of an antibacterial ointment and then leave him alone. The damaged tissue will dry up and fall off. For those of you who don't know, a bird's comb and wattle will not grow back when lost.
