Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Does anyone here know of anyone or anyplace that sells tea sets? I am starting to collect...... Shabby chic style. I like the cabbage roses and the pastel greens.
Is this just a collection, or are you planning on doing something with them? I have some sets from my mom that I'm willing to part with, if they are for a collection and not an art project. She loved collecting them and I would love for someone to enjoy them like she did. There are cups and saucers.

Stupid bleeeping bleep bleepy hawk got my daughters favorite easter egger rooster yesterday. While I am proud to say that he did his job, he didn't win the fight. This was one that my daughter had thought about showing, he was such a handsome bugger! I have been trying to find the regulations for this state on taking care of hawks that harm your flock. I am getting mixed messages and wondering if anyone on here knows what Michigan regulations are! So far we have lost two roosters to them!

So sorry about your rooster! I do so hate them darn hawks. I know they have to eat, but not our pets!

CrAzYcHiCkEnRaNcH is having a sale on her meat birds today. Check out her FB page if you want.

Please share what you find out... In all honestly I haven't had this problem yet. My outlook as wrong as it may be, is what the gov't doesn't know wont hurt them...

So sorry to hear about your rooster.. I have an idea of how to take care of a hawk, but not sure its up to regulations.. that would make me so mad.. especially being a favorite of yours.

I am quite certain hawks are protected in MI. be very carful to contact the DNR,
The best thing to do is net their area, Maybe a dog,but you would need to train it not to go after the chickens
Keep your birds in for awhile till the hawk looses interest

Good Luck, sorry for you loss

We have a couple dogs, but since one is a lab, he is a bird dog, and another is a silly immature boxer, and the other is smaller than the chickens!! We are keeping them inside today, they seem to get pretty traumatized by it and their laying is affected, so we keep them inside for a few days afterwards. Their area is so large, it is hard to net it. We are getting some goats here in the next few weeks, so hoping that helps deter the darn hawks.

We have ideas as well.. but not sure it is up to regulations either :)

Quoted from above.

Some steps to take if you have hawks in your yard:
  • First and foremost, federal and state laws prohibit the capture, killing, or possession of hawks and owls. Raptors at bird feeding stations are a problem only when they perch nearby all day. The birds return as soon as the Hawk flys away. So rather than get upset, enjoy a close-up look at these magnificent birds while they are in your yard.
  • Place your feeders where there is ample natural protection. Evergreen shrubs and trees can provide an easy escape for the birds. If there is none available, consider planting a few varieties.
  • Lastly, acknowledge that a few birds and squirrels will be caught by Hawks at your feeders. This is part of the cycle. Raptors play an important role in controlling the populations. Also keep in mind; songbirds are difficult for hawks to catch. Few are caught by birds of prey.

I think, believe, that when we (people) use environments occupied by animals, we share the space. Much as we regret predation on our animals we have no right to kill off the indiginous species. Protect ours, yes, but I think some people go too far. Also see below.

I'm sure the law is a federal one. Endangered, threatened, And maybe some other categories of migrratory birds are protected. They are also beneficial. You are correct, imo, to believe "they have to eat too.

The punishment for violation of these acts is severe. I think. And hope.

So tj you believe that as long as one does not get caught anything goes ? Right ?
