Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My wonderful husband brought these girls home for my daughter's birthday; our first ducks, should be fun! Crazy, thoughtful, tattooed man!!!!

Yay! Ducks are awesome! So fun!
Raz. I've got a deal for you. You can come up here, cut, split, and stack the wood we'll need for next winter, and in exchange I'll let you set me up with some honeybees on the far corner of our property. Sounds like a great deal to me!
You sound like my kinda person...I'd like honeybee's...

When people sit, talk, listen, and share a pot of coffee together there are fewer misunderstandings. My goal for today is to try and be the nicest person people meet. Have a cup of coffee and a wonderful sunny day.

Snowflake,

Thank you for asking, and good morning all.

He is really doing amazingly well, far ahead of schedule according to his doctor and physical therapists. He is still in hydro therapy, but will be starting land therapy soon. He is walking without any aide, though there is typically a "hitch" to his step, even on the best of days. A few weeks ago, he started taking care of the horses and donkey at the barn in the mornings and DS is helping in the evenings as well, which has really helped me out with my increased work schedule since I'm working 10 - 11 hour days now. My stress relief is still my chickens though. Every morning and night they are there, waiting for me. Tilting their heads and chirping at me as if to say, "What? Hard day today?"

For those of you new to this thread, on October 15th, my DH had a 1400 lb I-beam roll over on his ankle and leg which totally crushed it. At the time, we weren't even sure it could be saved.
Yay!
DH and I were literally LOLing...it's one of those days we needed a laugh though.
GOOD MORNING ALL!!
yesterday was beautiful, today we are enjoying a beautiful sun rise!!

Roosters are crowing, snow is melting, another beautiful day(just a little less sun) But it is OK

something I need to say......enjoy, and love your family, each member is so special and when one leaves the loss is so hard, life is too short, we always think we have more time. We lost our daughter last month, blood clots in both lungs. she had been suffering from RSD, a horrible pain disorder, caused from a bad surgery. For 9 yrs she fought every day to go to work and to help those around her in any way she could, She worked very hard at being the best Peggy she could be. I was blessed to have talked to her on the phone the morning she died, I regret that I didn't hear any panic in her voice just the pain which we had become accustomed to hearing. She made mistakes in this life; as we all do, but the good that she did for others far outweighed her mistakes. Cherish those around you and don't let the moment slip by when you could have said, I LOVE YOU. We say it a lot more around here lately, with more sincerity.

Let those you love, know you love them. Our life will always be blessed with the love and happy memories of Peggy, she was only 44

So sorry for your loss. I couldn't agree more. Even though we have our share of problems every single day we make sure to tell our kis we love them multiple times a day, and tell each other it before we leave, and before bed (and any other random time we feel like it.) ;) Life is too short, and you never know if that will be the last time you talk to someone.
In other news, I picked up a couple of BB white poults at FFH last night on impulse. This morning one had died. I'm not sure what happened, I can only assume it got chilled because it was in a corner furthest away from the heat lamp. The other poult seems fine, alert, bright eyes, eating and drinking. So here's a question: is it safe to put a turkey poult who's only a few days old in with my 4 week old chickens? They're much bigger than the poult, do you think they'll beat up on him? I don't really want to get any more turkeys unless I find a heritage breed, something I might want to keep around for a while as opposed to eating this year.
We bought home a turkey poult on impulse too...I really want some heritage turkeys, but my oldest son fell in love with the Turkey's at FFAH and so we brought one home along with a BO pullet (it's so yellow, and fluffy and sweet.) and a Blue Laced Wyandotte Pullet. :)
Sounds like some kind of a drug deal.
And we all know that chickens not only cause addiction, they are a gateway to <gasp> farming.
Bhahahaha! too funny

Opa...trying to be the nicest person someone meets...great goal. :)

Looks like I missed a lot! lol!

All I have to "say" is...

I'm sure there are a few of you who are even less crazy about me now. ;) lol! All I'll say is...I agree with many things that have been said to a degree...but one defines their own success and happiness, and hopefully takes such things into account before making important decisions.

Some of my quotes didn't show up...Brethren, so glad to hear your husband is doing so well! I'll keep him in prayer!
Raz...can't remember what it was but you said three different things I was nodding along to. ;)
Heading out to have dinner with my dad and brother who's here from Mississippi now!

*edited because I found all the missing quotes after I hit submit. lol

Odd day. Even though it was warm, the ground is still frozen enough that I can't rake up dog doo areas. At least that is in the far back.
So I worked on the monster wood pile. Cut, split and stacked quite a bit but hardly dented the wood mountain. Today's stack is 12 feet long and 3 feet high of tightly packed splits. The saw dust and bark pieces filled up a small wheel barrow. That debris will go through the shredder for use in the chicken run.

Now it is time for clean up and supper...and bedtime.

thank you all for your kind words. no matter how long we have those we love with us it is never long enough!!! My youngest daughters DH grandmother will be 101 next week, She is a fantastic woman, still plays cards and is very sharp for 101, But I know her family will miss her when she is gone.

Time, a funny thing we never have enough.

love all the chick pics.

Nova, hope your sister does better, she has been through so much already

I also discovered I have a mouse problem and will be setting a nice trap line this evening. I told my son I'm trapping to make him a mouse skin coat

Snowflake - thanks for sharing about your daughter. Your heartfelt reminder is a good for all of us. I feel bad for your loss and it made me think about my great niece. She is 14 and was diagnosed RDS about a year ago. She got a leg cut goofing off on the farm and didn't think too much about it. She didn't let on that she had a problem until a serious infection set in - kids! Her pain has been terrible and since the first of the year, she has had several surgeries to remove infection pockets in her leg. She current has a pic-line and goes for daily antibiotic treatments. Nothing much seems to work. Her dad (my nephew) leaves for Afghanistan in a few months.
this is very sad, It sounds like she is still having trouble with infections!. I hope she improves very soon.Is he in the service. or is he going on business? If she has RSD there is a new pain clinic in GR through Spectrum the Dr. that started it is the Dr. that diagnosed my daughter. I can't remember his name right now but he is very good,
Here's a video of the world's ugliest chicken breed (in my opinion). And those are not growths, they are expected of the breed.

That is very gross, I think i can pass on those.

Snowflake, I'm so sorry. What a transition you must be going through now. Sending prayers of comfort and peace, and hoping the good memories sustain you through difficult days.

I met tjbeckman & lisa and girls today. Did some chicken swapping.

It's always fun to do swaps in the parking lots of businesses.

It was nice meeting you! Wish we could have been able to talk. Maybe we can meet up again at CS.

Made it to the expo in plenty of time to see Kelly and the crew ride. I was so proud. When I met Kel, she had no formal training and was like a kid at the stable riding just hoping to stay on her horse. Three years later I got to see her ride @ MSU on an awesome horse and looked like an old pro! They made the horses stand lined up in the arena for nearly half an hour through an award ceremony for the riders that participated in the Inagural (sp) parade in DC this year and Booger (our horse) fell asleep! :) Got to do some shopping... Kids hit me up for cash, didn't find anything I needed but did get to go to Qdoba for lunch for the first time! YUMMMM :) Got out to the chickens late tonight around 10:30 and they had three eggs waiting for me... BUT a barred rock hen was setting on them...maybe... She was sleeping in the nesting box. She didn't put up much of a fuss when I moved her but I think maybe because she was asleep. I decided to leave them till morning and see if she leaves them... I don't mind having a broody bird : ) I think that pretty much sums up my day :)
