Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I am really bummed. My DH said when he went to the post office and opened them up one was clearly not doing well,so he asked the woman working and she just said " Well we could hear them all chirping so I am sure they are fine."

I know its not the post offices responsibility and that they don't open them before you pick them up, but it still sucks that you lose a bird and they are just like "oh well"

I am hoping that the other will come back around. The other four are doing fine I guess, so we will see when I go home on lunch.

It's not unusual to lose a chick or two. Some are just too weak to survive the stress of handling/shipping.
Give some sugar water to help jump start them... there is stuff you can buy to put in the water, electrolites etc.. Make sure they know where the water is by dipping the beaks of each one a couple times.

Need advise. You all think I can put my 2 month olds in with my 3 month olds?
I don't see why not as long as your brooder is big enough to give them all room. :) I throw mine together each week for 3 weeks of hatching and then start a new brooder.(I give them a couple days right after hatching by themselves before putting them with the older) So I'll have ages 2-3 days in with 3wk olds.

Thanks my husband said he showed all of them where the water was, but I will definitly do the sugar water when I go home.

I know they say "April showers bring May flowers" , but I am over this rain allready lol

Not sure how many people this applies to on here but I get my natural gas through Consumers Energy. I just found out that you can qualify for a small farm rebate ($3.80/mo) I know it isn't much but if you are like me every little bit counts! I am waiting to hear what they qualify as a "small farm'

I'm really enjoying the thunder though and while the rain is getting old, we really need it. 2"+ so far and still coming. Wish it were a warmer rain and that we didn't have snow and sleet in the forecast but that's Michigan.

WHO IS ALL GOING TO FOWLFEST?????

AND WHAT ARE YOU BRINGING?
I will be there! I will be showing a few sebastopols, a few runners, a few calls, a couple muscovies, modern game bantams, seramas, bantam americaunas, bantam cochins, one buff orpington, and one speckled sussex. I will probably bring some seramas for sale and maybe a couple other chickens. All I can say is that it will take me probably a week to bathe all of these birds. Keep me in your thoughts so I don't go insane.

I will be there with I am not sure. I may be there with two Icelandic roo's and a hen, I bought my incubator finally so who knows, I will try to bring some Jersey Giants. I would love some silkies. Wait a minute I want to come back with less then what I came with.

, chicken math has struck again, lol.
Last year was hot! I roasted when we packed up. It was so funny coming home I have a little drive almost two hours I look in my rear view mirror and there is the Jersey Giant I bought staring back at me over the box. He is a very nice roo I got for my son from Wynette.

Kimmie- are you talking about ChickenStock or FowlFest?

I wish it were warmer too, then I would enjoy it a little more. I really want to get outside and get some yard work done. I have a few spring bulbs starting to pop up and my Iris leaves are starting to come up too. Makes me really want to get the flowerbeds cleaned out.

Wouldn't mind a good thunderstorm knocking out the power at work today lol :)
