Hi everyone, I have a question I got 4 hens in nov.. and they are suppose to be 1yr but i think i have a old hen in the bunch.. I took some pictures tonight.. she stands around most the day. she is eating and drinking.. on sunny warmer days she is more active.. I did notice the girls really pick on her. I felt her stomach and pelvic bone, which stomach is hard, and pelvic bone is like fingers width, oh and vent has yellow around it.. other then that looks good.. classic symptoms of older hen.. I almost culled her the other day. she was looking pretty weak.. we started feeding her extra protien and extra love she is looking better.. what do you all think.. her comb is pale..and some blueish in it.. so i was reading maybe some cardiac going on.. not sure in a bind.. she is under alot of stress from the other hens.. she stays in the nesting box at night.. I think i am going to have to crate the bully.. dont want to get rid of the bully because i think she is my 3rd consistant layer.. here some pictures.. my guess she is old or something is making her weak.. she is a sweetie, lets you hold her all day but i think that is because she is weak.. bottom picture is one of her siblings supposedly.. any feedback would be great..

Update on my hen, i call her old lady.. brought her in last night.. this morning i brought newpaper to put her food and water on so she doesnt poo on floor, I put instant potato, little layer mash, some cat food, a few left over tortilla chips small pieces, fine crushed egg shell, some boss and poured milk in it and let it set and left it a little runny.so she would hydrate from that also. fed her some, then took her out with the rest. one of the other hens thats been picking on her pounces on her back and was pulling up on the feathers of the back of her neck, i grabbed the mean hen and put her in a crate for a while.. put some acv in the water this am.. she is eating and drinking fine, her comb is reddening more.. so i think that is a good sign.. i also put some de in the feeder in the coop, and cayenne in their food for the worming and also to make her drink more i read that somewhere here or other sites..atleast till i can get to tractor supply and spread de in the coop and nest boxes.
her poop looks good.. looks like everyone else.. she ate alot and drank alot this am.. not moving alot yet. i put her back in the coop with water and some wet food by her, she is eating and drinking.. more then in the last day or so.. so we will see how she does.. I dont want to keep her inside and away from the others, we have to go away this weekend for a funeral so she will have to stay out there with them.. i have no other choices. I will bring her in again tonight at bedtime though.. that way she can get good rest atleast. i will go back and check on them in a little bit.. i may have to put the mean one in the crate if she is picking on her still.. thank you everyone for the advice..

Ok looking for help...again... I have a hen that the last two days has laid eggs, but both days there was blood on them. I am not sure where to start on this. I am posting a pic any suggestions would be great. I am figuring that after dark tonight I will catch her and bring her in the house to keep an eye on her...

News flash!

Annabelle had piglets last night!!! 7 of them!
ep.gif
She had 6 before, and the other 2 sows had 6 too, so this litter is the largest we got so far! So the count of piglets this year is-25, but 4 died very young, 1 got stolen, so 20 now, and 3 more sows expecting soon.

Anyone want some bacon??? lol

I watched 4 pop out, and taking their first breath, it was cool. 3 were already out when I went to check on her when I got home from work last night at 10:20. Each piglets came out about 20 minutes apart. I stayed in that tiny shed until 12:20 am.

4 males, 3 females

They are born about the size of a pop can, so small.

Proud Mama eating yummy bread. She is about 150 lbs.
Way too cute. I just love farm animals.

We had a pot bellied pig named Paulie and she was the funniest thing. My husband taught her to turn around and to shake. I want to get another one and a goat.

I have had eggs with blood, but never that much...

naglady... can you get a staple gun and either plastic chicken wire or even regular chicken wire, separate the coop into 2 sections? Section out an area for Old Lady and another of the docile girls with their own food and water and nest box till you get back? I have found that chicken wire dividers come in real handy when I need to protect birds for one reason or another.

Hello Michigan Thread! I'm a beginner hobby farmer and wonder if anyone has had any dealings with "The Chicken Hatchery (aka Destiny Farms) in Milford Michigan. I'm interested in hearing both good and bad.

Thanks!
