Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

when I was a kid, my horse stepped on my foot, then leaned into me, knocking me backward............. and she stayed on my foot. I think she did it on purpose. I think a cow would smart more with those pointy split hooves. Glad you're OK Farmer!

Hoover....a subject I can get overly passionate about, so I'll try not to get carried away.
Please consider a rescue group or pet finder, and adopt a dobie/dobie mix, and not be too picky about purity if you're not willing to pay for it.

Does anyone have any doberman connections? We are looking into adding one to the family, want a puppy, purebred-but affordable as papers dont matter. Great home with lots of land and invsible fence intstalled, and a bonus of having connections at the vets as I was the receptionist there for 5 years.

There is one on the fb for sale group, a red, that the owner will not reply back on (frustrating)....and a few other dobe pups for 500-600, Were looking to spend less.

I have a Dobe- they are great. It's hard to find a pup cheaper than $500..... mine was quite a bit more than that- but I want health tested lines as I do schutzhund with her. There are alot of health (major heart, "blood", and spinal issues) and temperment issues with the breed- I would save up for a good one rather than get a cheap one. Other options are rescues- there are alot of great dogs looking for homes- if you are not going to get one from a responsible breeder- please don't support BYB or puppy mill set ups- get a rescue!!

I am looking for a mid size, can be mixed breed puppy 8 weeks or so. So if anyone has any or will have some PM me.

check rescues!! can get a fixed pup with shots cheaper than having it done your self.....

http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search...scher&pet_age=baby&pet_gender=&startsearch=Go there's a bunch of pups on here!

Very true!! I have the same issue- go to a responsible breeder (one who health tests, shows, competes with their dogs, etc) or get a rescue!! "Saving" (buying) a puppy from a person who is not taking care of their dogs/has way too many dogs(I have show friends with 20ish well cared for house/ kennel dogs- that's not what I'm talking about)/ poor conditions/ etc only adds to the problem....... if you just want a pet- rescues are great- I have 3 of those, and my sport Dobe.

New chickens are doing really good
hubby went out to start the truck around am turned on outside light and the rooster crowed..
he hasnt crowed for me yet since hes been here.. i did hear him crow at the other owners place,
the other owner said they are used to 40 degrees, she kept them in a nice green house.
yesturday i thought i saw frostbite on the rooster, today you can tell he had frostbite in the daylight.
the hen gave me a egg which makes me feel good, because she is eating, drinking and laying.. so i know she isnt to stressed..

Is that where chicken-fried steak comes from?

When you have hybrid birds, meaning birds that originate from 2 or 3 specific pure breeds, they can have exceptional qualities compared to the parent breeds - this is called hybrid vigor, and is why a lot of proprietory crosses such as Isa Browns can outperform the parent breeds. When you then take those crossbred offspring and breed them, their offspring are often much less likely to produce well. Generally you are going to get more predictability and reliable production from good-quality purebreds or first generation crosses of certain breeds. If you are looking to breed you may want to consider some of the purebreds like Delawares, they are great egg producers and the boys grow up big and beefy.
good to know, even if they are not good layers will they get the beefy trait.. I think both my hen and rooster look big and beefy.. i think i like this breed

Thanks...I have two dogs, one a lab mix rescue, one a deaf terrier rescue...I have owned two dobes in the past, I am looking for a puppy for many reasons, including to raise with the livestock, have more years with my son, being able to crop the ears, and to not have to worry about if the dog can be trusted with a two year old. I am not looking for a mix,I have rescued contionously from working at the vets and seeing misued, misbred and mistreated dogs...I want the doberman for the gorgeous looks and personality...but basically I'm saying I dont want to pay for their papers, I would rather spend less and sign a spay/neuter contract, or take a puppy that is mismarked, which I know bigger breeders will destroy.

Sorry I was not looking for a debate, believe me I know all about everything you have all noted, I've seen it all working at the veterinary for 5 years..

Are anyone else's chickens afraid of snow? The girls that hatched in August refuse to go outside when there is snow on the ground. Even as beautiful as it is today they just stand at the door. I booted a couple out and they act like they can't walk on it. They like to eat it but that's about it.

i give their morning porage outside coop, and as soon as they are done eating they go back in, i dont think they like the snow either..

At least yours can be bribed! Lol mine just stand on the threshold doing a silly balancing act until I bring their treat to the safety of their coop! It's pretty hilarious to witness.
