Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

like the blue mottled, he is gorgeous, Good luck

Finally narrowed down which of my four roosters I am going to keep, which means these three boys need new homes. They are about 3 1/2 months old right now. Asking $10 for the black mottled cochins, and $20 for the blue mottled. More info listed on my craigslist ad here if anyone is interested in them: http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/grd/3603188240.html

Oh, how I wish Sarah! Those boys turned out great! They were such cute chicks! I still can't believe you had so many boys and what 1 girl right? Lol. Smartest last batch of chicks... All three were boys too.

Yeah, they are driving poor Petunia crazy though. If she doesn't start growing I'm not sure what I'm going to do with her - she is about 1/3 the size of the roosters. Hopefully I can sell them before the neighbors start to complain. On a nice sunny day like this, all four of them are out there crowing up a storm.

I'm gathering as much information as I can to protect my rights. Tuesday is a meeting with the MAEAP certification person, Wednesday is another Ag Commission meeting and then I go to trial after all that.

Funny how the state and feds are promoting small farm operations, yet these po-dunk towns try to criminalize growing your own food.

Hi everyone. Kimmie how's life? HH, I lost a NH hen. No broodies so I don't know what to do. I can get fertilized eggs from the hen but no bator! Email me if you have an idea? Baby it's cold out there!

buy a bator! LOL! (Check craigs list). I think it's too early for broody hens... or you can see if someone in the area could incubate some eggs for you. Both mine are fired up so I can't loan one out.

Yeah, I'm thinking goat house too.

would pointing that out help?

t's beautiful outside!! No wind and sunny! Love all the outdoor pics!! Beautiful roos, Sarah.
My chickens don't like to eat the head of cabbage, but shred it and they go nuts. I buy the bags of coleslaw mix and feed it to them.
Got the chicken runs shoveled. Hope they come out and enjoy the sun.
Have a good one...

Hillbilly-I was debating how I wanted to do that, should I just cover one area with tarps in the summer? My other thought was to keep it with plastic year round but have it set up to roll up the sides about 3 feet in the summer...I wonder though how hot it would get in there ....hmmm....
We have an old canvas from my in laws 5th wheel over the top of ours for the summer. We remove the greenhouse plastic for the summer months so they get plenty of air and won't get too hot. At least that's what we used to do.

Sorry for your loss. I would buy an incubator or see if anyone can hatch them for you.
Beautiful morning! Another heavy hoar frost or freezing fog, whichever.
Beautiful pictures!

Hi Rose!

same here... I have another who's gone broody. First time for her too. A pretty NH with a really bad attitude. She will not let any of the other girls in her box. LOL. More faverolle eggs are up under her. I put 6, we'll see what happens.

The pictures are spectacular. Makes me really wish I had a better camera than I do.
