him!!! He is 6 weeks old, and still on bottle. I named him Laubach. He is 1/8 Nubian, and 7/8 Boer. He will be my breeding buck for my doe, and my neighbor want to use him for her does too, so win-win for us!

Wow! He is so cute!

Everyone's getting cute little fuzzbutts! They're irresistible. Our TSC doesn't have any EE last I checked. It would be nice to add one more colored egg-layer.

That kid is adorable Daron!

Anyway, we just got back from Traverse City and the FRC competition. If you're interested in what it's like (nonstop chaos) check out my short youtube video:

And of course, I drove out on the peninsula and bought some wine. Can't go out there and not. I LOVE MICHIGAN!

Couldn't stand it. Saw some fuzzballs at TSC and had to take some home. I have four each of Black Jersey Giants, GLW's and Ameracaunas.
look at the babies!! I didn't know TSC would have some many different breeds
Thanks for all the warm welcomes and great tips!

We ended up going with 5 of the red pullets (potential breeds: Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red, Isa Brown, and Buff Orpington), 5 Pullets (potential breeds: Isa Brown, Rhode Island Red, Black Sex Link, and Barred Rock), and 2 Black Sex Links. We got them from TSC, and so far they are doing great! A bunch of little poopers for sure though! lol I'm making a bigger area for them today. We got the small water station and feeding station for now. But dang if those little turds don't flip their bedding into the watering station the second I clean it out! lol
I have pictures but I don't think I'm "allowed" to post them yet cause I'm still a newbie. lol
We are super excited to see what they all turn into as they grow. My two oldest children who no longer live at home, have come over 2 times just to see them since we've gotten them. lol

Okay...so my question of the day is this (and I can hear you all laughing already, but it's a legit question!

): Several of the chicks have poo stuck to their little behinds..and I mean..a good size gob..lol Do I need to do something for them?

Or will they take care of it. lol I don't want them to have problems going.

Thanks again.. and you can stop laughing now

yes my little chickes got pasty butt I just used a warm paper towel till soften and got it off the hard part was catching the little buggers. My brooder was 4ft X 4ft I would have to block it off to reach them and be able to keep the others from jumping out, hopping on top of the waterer or feeders, they can jump high and quickly. By the way is that Diamondale Michigan?
Glad your going to live, thats scary, what do you think caused it, that is a huge egg..

hi kimmie, yes brining old chicken is suppose to help break down the tissue so its not so tough. i usually brine for one to 4 days.. depending on my schedule, and if the garage is cold, i use a 5 gal bucket rinse chicken good, then put in bucket, put water up to top of chicken pour some salt on it, then i put ice on top of that and cover and set in garage.
I think it helps, I alway slow cook in the oven to cook old chickens. makes such a good broth and meat comes off the bone, works good for stews, chili, burritos, dumplings, etc.

definately need a good slow cook method, for old chicken, the first couple oldies i butchered and cooked , didnt turn out real well, took more research and learning about how to make a old bird taste good, and the brining and letting it set for a few days makes a difference, If and when you decide to butcher, and need some pointers feel free to ask on here, I am sure we can all give some pointers on how to cook a oldie..

I agree with fuzzybutt on flavor and juiciness
Right now I feel almost myself, I can't believe it. I have a quilt block swap that I am late on

Now I really want a little goat or goats hanging around. He is so darn cute with the brown head. Now how big will he get? And is he wearing diaper?
Hello and
welcome-byc.gif

Happy 16th Anniversary hope you both feel better.. I have been married 16 yrs last October..
Happy March to all.. I was outside most the evening soaking up the sun with the chickens.. they were out in the sand under the boat bathing.
Happy 16th!! So nice to see people stay married.

Ok a couple of questions my hen who is brooding on some eggs don't know if any are fertile but she sure is trying. She came out to eat and poop but her poop is very runny and green I am worried about her.

She had an egg that was cracked like a peck to me well I left it under and I came out the next day it was gone but the shell that wasn't even cut in half. So I presume she ate it is this normal?

Can I put chicks under her if she has chicks?

Kimmie

Kimmie, the TSC I go to in Coopersville has the ones I picked up, plus assorted banties, isa browns, black sex links and a couple breeds of ducks. Man, I am tempted to get some ducks. I like their eggs in baking!

Do it!!! You will love them. I love my ducks. They are so docile, and sweet, cute, and FUNNY. They crack me up. They follow me around when I let them free range in the summer too. I just love ducks.

Hubby doesn't know it but I am going to go by FFAH and see if they have any chicks or bunnies.

I want to put my banty cochin in with my big coop...do you think they regular size chickens or the ducks will pick o her...should I put her in their in a seperate cage first?

1mutts I'd love some banty cochins...if anyone wants to hatch them for me (unless I decide to buy an incubator! lol)

Congrats on the anniversary, sorry someone had food poinsoning.

The girls had a pageant today. I've been sewing up a storn, and have had 1 hour of sleep in the last 41 hours, so I am going to bed. Night all! :)
