Here's my JG with some of her babies she should have 8 now one died and there are still two eggs. How long do I wait to see if they will hatch before I take them out?

Ahhhhh puppies!!!

Not chicken related, but our Chinese Crested puppies were born yesterday! 2 boys (black one on the left and the apricot one under him) and a girl. Most likely keeping the girl.

Did you mark the eggs? If you marked them so you know exactly when they should have hatched, I'd give 3 days tops. OR, go out tonight and candle and listen to them.

Hi Nova, I wish I could candle but I don't have a candler or a stronge enough flash light. Tomorrow going into town and buying one. I had one die and am not sure if it was a newly hatched egg from today or one of the other ones. The hen never lets me look for long. I wonder what it died from?

Sometimes just happens. I hate when it does. Hate even more when they get all the way to hatch day and fully formed, but never pip but die... That really sucks. Where a pair of gloves if your afaid of chicken kisses. LOL. I have learned to not be afraid of a peck, and I have had some that have left bruises. They are usually more vicious when the chicks are freshly hatched though. My girls all learn pretty good that I am not the evil monster come to hurt their babies. I check them ALL for deformities after they have hatched and fluffed.

Oh, I also just use them big head beater mag lites. LOL, never fails even with the dark Welly egg.

the hen will give up on the eggs in a day or so when she has to chase the chicks around

Had my first "spring" bat in the house tonight, thankfully he flew out the door within 10 minutes after I turned out the lights and opened the back door. If only they were all that easy to get rid of.

I went into TSC tonight and saw a bin with a big buff orpington sign on it. It also had a small tag that said "Red Pullet". What's your guess? I asked a clerk and she said it was a red buff orpington.

I was not convinced! I tried looking at breed pics, but at a day old, they look pretty similar to me. I looked up Red Sexlink, New Hampshire Reds and BOs. Just not sure!

I am watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives right now, and Guy just points at a cracked egg with a beautiful dark orange yolk and says

Guy: "what is that?"
Chef: "that's a farm fresh egg"
G: "they come in like that?"
C: "uh, yeah"
G: "what are they feeding their chickens?!"
C: "I don't know man"
