Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ekta the serema hen is the girl we got from Theron. She is a hoot. She will come out from under Skeeter, get some grub and drink, then BURROW back under Skeeter, and get the chicks back under her. Then Skeeter will stand up, shake out, and a chick or two will fall off, she'll get a drink and nosh, and go back and SIT on TOP of Ekta. LOL. If I had the time to just sit there and video them until I caught them doing this stuff, I would... BUT I am never ready with the camera when they are in motion.

That is funny. Seramas are a hoot.

Oh my gosh. So funny!

Some chick eye-candy today.

This little one was, I thought, a pure BO but those cheeks!

From the side. More cheeks than my BO/EE mixes.
Oh, stop with this. For real?! Adorable. I know nothing of chicken genetics. Is it possible to get the blue/green eggs from BO/EE cross hens? Hm.... I might be begging you for a pullet.

For years, the benefits of crop rotation has been extolled. The same theory can apply to animal husbandry on both large and small operations. Simple planning goes a long way in making the best use of the land that you have.

I changed some boundaries in my backyard this weekend. Partly to clean up winter debris, partly to redefine chicken and dog runs and partly to give the grounds a chance to rest and recover. While it is still too early for planting, it is not too early to make plans to maximize your land usage. A little time spent now saves a ton of labour and time later.
