Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It's at the EMU Convocation Center, April 11-13.  They usually run between 8-5 with a late start on the first day and an awards ceremony at the end of the final day.  I like to go on Saturday.  All day, intense championship rounds.  Sometimes they livestream the tournaments online if you're interested but can't go.

I'm thinking an emu convention, how cool. Duhhh... Emu on the brain. Friends of our just got 3 emus. My son says they are creepy and I think DH is actually considering. Originally he told me no way where we getting any.

So my husband and I finally ventured out and added some goats to our chickens. We have also decided that we are going to be going egg overload here in the near future. My husband hopes to get a small farm going full force here soon.... sooooo he had me build a website and a facebook page! So if anyone wants to learn more about us, our chickens, our goats, and our other activities and join in on learning about our little adventure... please feel free to take a gander over to our website or facebook page! (I deeply appologize if this is breaking any rules of the forum, I tried to search but did not find any regulations about it!)

My mother just took her dog Ally to the vet. Her last trip to the vet. In the past few months, the old girl has been going downhill. Most recently, there has been a radical shift in her behavior, such as increased aggression with no provocation. The other dog or cat may walk by her and suddenly get attacked. Even towards humans she's shown a lot of aggression. She's been on pain medication for mild arthritis, so that isn't the cause of her change.

Ally is a beagle mix who has always had 'issues'. She went through four homes (two of which dumped her, including a family that officially adopted her from a shelter, then decided they didn't want her, but tossed her rather than bring her back). She suffered abuse in her past homes, we know that. But she's never been this bad. We knew things she was sensitive to, and behaved accordingly. It makes me sad, but we've had her 11 years (she was two when we adopted her) and loved her very much in that time.

I will post pictures tomorrow but the so called coop is here and put together (all by myself). WAAAAAAYYYYY smaller than I thought for 8 chickens. I will have to build a raising foundation frame for it, fill that with soil so far up and then I can add some litter/bedding! As is it is too small to even put the heat lamp I bought!!!! Might be better as a chick introduction cage later.

For now I have to get my chickens by the weekend..... so will be busy tomorrow evening making a frame foundation and predator skirt. . Then Friday morning getting the bedding and some bails of hay to insulate the frame.

Then I will begin constructing a BIGGER fenced run area around the side of the shed. Then when warmer will begin working on a better coop for them.

This silly thing can be the tractor later or an isolation or chick house in the future..

Anyway will have my chickens soon. Just not what I had planned for them. Trials of the beginner!

Sorry to hear about Ally!
