Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Early morning folks!

Just popping in to say hi. I see there's a lot of names I don't recognize, awesome. No babies yet, they are still baking.

I sleep most of the day now. The twins are due any day now ... So exciting/exhausting.

My chickens finally started laying again and they are going strong! I love it! They took a long break in the fall and I was a little worried but they are back in business.

Nigellas does your chick smell.. Sour? Yogurt should help. Empty the crop first.
Take advantage of all the sleep you can get. After the twins come it will be hard to get any sleep. Would be good if you can get someone to come in once and a while just so you can get some sleep. When my daughter had her twins, Sleep deprivation was the biggest problem. You will enjoy them more if you can get some sleep. Hope all goes easy and fast.

looks to be a good day, might even get some sun.

Or I can just send those lousy ISAs to freezer camp...

So what was the verdict?

Totally busted up. Can't help but remember a certain avitar........All's i can think is that if any of y'all do it, it's gonna take a lot of SOMETHING to do it since it's so frigid! Need a fire perhaps. A nice big toasty fire............otherwise it's gonna be more like a dash and run, LOL LOL

Today is day 20.. i am going to unknott my panties.. and ignore the bator.. i have been reading alot of post on this and everyone goes thru the same.. no sense in worrying when it may be to early..
darn the media

today will be starting day 23.. loosing hope..
i have eggs on the counter waiting to go in.
will wait till day 25.. see if there is a late stragler..
. However, peachy (isa brown) ripped her comb to shreds. She's such a blankity blank. I got her inside and got her cleaned up, put some trace minerals on her comb (coagulates blood) and put her back in the grow out side. I am guessing I need to keep them seperated for awhile? Any suggestions to curb this behavior?

I got rid of the isa/ RIR mutt? I had, she was too aggressive to my mild mannered EE hens. I felt bad for a while, but in the end she had progressed to not allowing them to eat! She would guard the dish, constantly and tear into anyone who dared to try....... Took a while to catch her at it, went on most of last winter before i caught her doing it. :( Thought it was the rooster mucking up their feathers, couldn't believe my eyes when i saw her ripping into them!

I have a chicken question... I have a 5 week old Blue/Copper Marans chick that seams to have a crop problem. She is really, hugely swollen. It's not hard (yet?), it feels like a water balloon on her chest. Sour crop? What do I do? Any tips? thanks.
Did you try any of the suggestions yet? Is it working? Mine i took a section of raw garlic and minced it fine, fed at least one section a day to my EE hen. Also i fed only the manna pro gamebird/showbird supplement, a couple Tb at a shot; not an issue since she wasn't eating really by the time i figured out what was wrong. Grains and pelleted foods will ferment once they hit the already soured crop. That particular supplement needs only a Tb to 3 Tb a day to get all the daily vitamins, and is formulated with probiotics so went MUCH better on her. No other pelleted foods!

So egg yolk, yogurt, kefir, lots of garlic, whatever people food i was eating that i deemed wouldn't sour too bad.... I didn't drain, since you have to tip to do and there is a chance of the hen aspirating. Most beneficial and quicker to treat, but since i was a newb at the procedure....She felt better and the crop went down in a few days, i treated for a week to be sure. The vinegar is supposed to be standard treatment, but it made it worse for her every time i tried it????? So i don't suggest it.

I hear cheeping from my incubator! Today is day 19. I've told the little cheepers to take their time and come out tomorrow... only 1 day early. It's the EEs that want to hatch early. The BR eggs still have a little bit to go, so they're either right on schedule for Saturday/Sunday hatching, or maybe even running a tad behind. ? Both breeds were set the same day, same time, sooo...

Congrats!!! Wishing you a great hatch!!!

I dressed up 2 of my chickens a couple of weeks ago... for the "tiara contest". LOL. The hen was not too impressed... but the brahma roo thought it was about time he got his crown.

Ok, so I don't do this on a normal basis! It was kind of fun for the afternoon though.
