Can you have someone hold them for you or board them....maybe in Brighton the hatchery would board them until you are able to take back possession. If not i would help. How long did they give you to rehome? I can take 1 and spread the word up here and on Hunter's site.

Ginger, we are in TC and have a lot of wind, snow, and ice in the winter. We made certain to choose cold hearty birds. We do not insulate the coop, but in the winter change the litter often. Our girls were out in the coop 4 weeks ago and we were so nervous about the cold, but they I'd really well. I would be more worried about the heat. Also, venting is key...we came up with what we thought was a good idea, for our hidden vents. And the girls have venetian blinds on the chicken netting, and they have privacy lattice on one entire side, this helps allow for the venting while leaving the wind out. The blinds keep out the snow...but not the cheapest option...we are looking for something else for next winter, and have taken the blinds down for the spring. Thanks for the info, I was reading a while back on coop building and everyone kept mentioning you have to insulate it. Lucky for us, we are able to put the coop up against 2 fence walls, since we have such severe winds that go through our area (surrounded by fields with NO trees- we have lost multiple shutters to the house, and our greenhouse loses it's panels a lot)

Ginger-- I have ducks, not chickens, but what I use for the outside house is a ratty old kids wooden playhouse and my ducks love it. Lots of spaces in between the slats for ventilation. My pen is sheltered on the East side, but 100% exposed otherwise. I do not insulate but do drive stakes in the ground and stack up square straw bales 3 high around the house and around the perimeter of the pen, which I also wrap in tarps. It''s worked here.

Hi everyone. I've been reading along but seems I rarely post unless I have a question -sorry about that. So here it is...
I have a hen that sounds raspy - like something's stuck in her windpipe. She sounds funny, breathes with a rattle -all the time. Occasionally a cough or a head shake. It started three days ago. My son had been pulling long grass to feed them - no longer doing that. She's eating/drinking/laying fine, crop isn't full or hard. No eye or nasal discharge. Any suggestions?

Ok I thought I would post a picture of my pretty lil ladies for everyone.... they sure do like to talk... and give me a run for for my money when I am trying to corral them to clean up the box.... hoping to let them outside and enjoy this beautiful weather SOMETIME soon!!

I know that I have room for one,and I have contacted a school up here who is interested, I am just waiting to see what they say. We can leave in the morning tomorrow and be there in the afternoon, I have a BO, BSL,NHR,RSL,and SS. They are awesome. The BO, RSL and SS are 11 weeks and the BSL and NHR are three weeks. We would be super happy to take a seabright pullet or your BO or BLA, and the school will probably want 3 or 4 of them. The quickest I can get there is tomorrow , can you call or email or pm me the directions, my sister lives on Arcola by the Dollar General I think you are on Camb...from the pics on the news very close to her.
