Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I have never posted on this Michigan thread before...new to this whole chicken world thing. We are in South Lyon. What is "flaming" so I can be sure not to do it?

OMG, they are so cute! We have 8-10 week old chicks and they all sleep together in the laying boxes. Adorable! Sorry, I can't respond to your question. I'm new to this chicken stuff...just trying to learn everything I can...

Welcome! "Flaming" is not-nice behavior, name-calling, super-rude comments, etc. We're a pretty nice group, so this isn't generally an issue.

Hey, is anyone else having trouble posting pictures? I was trying to upload them in another thread (and a few on here as well) and the uploader isn't working for me. There's a thread about it, but I'm wondering if it's a hit-and-miss issue, or more widespread than is realized.....

A bit of an agenda. As the article says "The Gates Foundation is a funder of NPR's coverage of global health" so they might as well just call it a paid advertisement rather than a news story. Personally, I'm not interested. Unprocessed foods for me.
I will hold out for fake food until they invent some Star Trek-style replicators. :p Why is this such a novel idea? Probably just egg flavored protein powder. Body builders have been using that sort of thing for ages.

I was having trouble yesterday at my desktop while trying to load pics for my avatar. Yet it worked fine doing it from my iPhone. On desktop the "loading" symbol was still there after over an hour. Thought it was just me as I am so new to this whole forum thing!

Gaitngirl, when hay is baled too green, with too high a moisture content, and especially if it becomes overheated, the nutritional content drops dramatically. Even if it doesn't get hot enough to spontaneously ignite, the quality of the hay drops to extremely poor. In addition the warmer temperature of the bales encourages the growth of mold spores, which are found in all hay. In properly dried and baled hay, those mold spores do not get the chance to grow. Even the smallest amount of excess moisture leads to the growth of mold, which for horses in particularly dangerous, as chronic exposure to mold spores can lead to the development of heaves. Not to mention the tremendous danger of storing too-green bales in a barn.

Hay that gets rained on, even if well dried before baling, still has poorer quality nutritional content.

That guy is costing you an awful lot.

Has anyone ever put 2 broodies together to raise chicks? I have 2 hens that have been bunking together for weeks~!

I'll let you know when these two hens are done in a day or two.... they have (as far as I can see, one white and one black and another piped) the white fluff on the left bottom, is the silkie hen who's crammed in the back of the nest box. Who knows what lurks behind her.... but they are all uggos!

Sorry about your loss. If you'd like a replacement white silkie rooster... I have one for you. :) He's a good boy, not aggressive. We're thinking about changing up our breeding pen to colors.
I am for some reason unable to pm so, yes, I;m interested. Are you going to chickenstock? I may be able to have someone pick him up there for me if I'm not there. I've got just the partridge silkies and really like the white ones.
I really want these 2 Pekin ducks (only one pictured) and 2 drakes to get good homes. I don't feel right selling them for the soup pot. I guess if they've gotta go to freezer camp, then I can find a spot in my own freezer. None of these ducks are obnoxious or aggressive at all-- I just need to reduce the size of my flock. So who's interested?

I tried yesterday to pm you, but couldn't. I could possibly fit 4 more ducks, if its that or lunch. How much are you asking for them and how far from Millington are you?
