Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It's raining! We have had so little rain that all of us, me, DH and son kept right on working outside in it. I didn't get everything done I wanted but close enough.

I just took a pan of brownies out of the oven and really want to break into them but they are coming with us tomorrow. I have to pack everything in the van tonight and we will be headed out about 6 in the morning. Hope to see you all then.

Just my 2 cents here, but I suggest you leave the Wellies where they are. It would be better to err on the side of caution at this point.

Also as a reminder, I think it would be a good idea that anyone bringing livestock tomorrow practice a modicum of bio-security. Don't wear your coop shoes, bring hand sanitizer and above all else, PLEASE make sure that you have food and water available for the animals under your care.
Thank you Raz for reminding us, its very important.

I agree with you on all of this except the food part. I try to bring food as in fruit or veggies, but if I bring their regular feed, they make a huge mess of it and a lot gets wasted. Plus, it is only a few hours. If I was going somewhere for a few days, I would definitely bring their feed.

I do have your # and new email. We'll take the truck beacuse the cages are fairly large. Next year maybe we all can carpool down. By then you'll have the hoop house back in full operation! I could get you started right now with a German NH rooster and hen couple

You are soooo bad! The German New Hampshires were my favorites too! No..no...no..no, not gonna do it!

PuPpy!!! love puppies.... I saw a dane pup that was just adorable the other day - up for adoption.......Ugh!

I guess it's probably a good thing that adoption is pending for him..... cause I fell in love with him, but really shouldn't get another until the two older ones have moved on!

Awwww!
Yesterday the chickens were in the smoker shortly after 8am and for some reason the apple wood chips weren't smoking properly. I finally determined that the hot plate in the smoke chamber was working intermittently. I replaced it but as a result of the problem I had to slow the cooking down to allow the prerequisite number of pans of wood chips to be consumed. As the chips smoked I closely monitored the internal temperature of the chickens to insure they reached 165 degrees at the same time the final pan of chips was exhausted. It was 3am before my goal was reached.

This morning Hope and I boned out the birds, packaged them for tomorrow, and got the carcasses and assorted mess cleaned up before the garbage man came. With the coming heat I'm sure it would have been a sticking mess by next Friday.

The final part for installing the new impeller in the jet pump arrived yesterday, so Hope, Granny, and I are waiting for the storm to blow over so we can head to the lake.

Hope just reminded methat there are only four outlets at the pavillion; so anyone needing power should bring an extension cord and maybe a power strip.
Opa, I appreciate all the hard work you and Hope have gone thru for the best tasting chicken ever! I hope y'all have fun fishing!!

Here's my pallet planter! I should have given it another week before standing it up I think, but its not leaking too much dirt and I don't have to water it as often as I thought so far. I'm quite happy with it! That darn lobelia just can't die on me! I already had to move some alyssum and add begonias to the bottom because 2 of the alyssum decided randomly to just croak on me!
Cool!

I have plans on bringing a couple of ice bottles for my puppy just in case he gets too hot.

I posted this on the CS thread, too . . .
....I've called several vets in the area and nobody deals with poultry. There is one in Frankenmuth but there's no way I can make it up there (and she charges an arm and a leg for a poultry office visit apparently).

Is that Dr. Sue Buck? I thought she was in Birch Run. Close enough I guess. Dr. Buck is your Gal.

Chickenstock is a day away! Can't wait to see all of you! I will be bringing my fancy camera and taking some pictures. I will be bringing BUNDLES of muscovy ducklings (probably 15 of them; about a week old), a few call ducklings, variety of seramas, a few lay flock chicks, a modern game hen, a bantam polish rooster, and a few sebastopol goslings.
Awesome, I will be hitting you up for more seramas possibly. Are any of the pullets frizzles? I'd like to introduce some frizzle genes into the little flock I have going from your chicks. Oh, and just this week Mocha, the pullet I got from you last October started laying what I believe to be normal sized serama eggs, complete with yolk. Was thinking I'd get marble sized yolkless eggs from her for the rest of her life. I'm glad and hopefully I can get some chicks from her next year. She's a sassy thing and the only one of my chickens that will jump right up on me for food and seems to enjoy getting pets.

Love the planter! Looks like it has just enough rows for rainbow colors - I might have to try that! Well, once I get all the other things on my list of things to do finished. I keep spending way to much time measuring and trying to decide what color and size shade sail to get. I am dangerous when it comes to planning and graph paper.

I didn't specify any particular type of food, I just want folks to realize that their critters need care while they are at CS.
Water is vital, whereas food is a lesser concern. Please be a good steward of the animals that depend on you.

It is supposed to be hot tomorrow and any caged animal can suffer if not properly cared for. Water is available at the park, please have a container of it for your charges. Food? Well, I'm sure that kids will drop some on the ground and that could be good chicken snackage.

We've got a good-sized canopy we're bringing after my sister (who attended last year) reported that a number of people didn't have shade for their birds and IT WAS HOT that day.

Tell your friend about my beautiful Runner drake that I posted pic of last night. Mild tempered (so far) and friendly, looking for a good home. To acquire new ducks, best practice is to quarantine, then acclimate. Also 2 female Pekins. All this years hatch.
where are you located.. and do you think that will help the female runner. will that make her happy again. he has a nice pond that they used to walk around it together all the time and hang out.
what are you asking for the ducks..

Hope it doesnt rain for chickenstock tomorrow.

I had another guinea keet hatch today.. today was original hatch day.. so far 16 keets..

love the flower pallet planter great job.

get a trap out for the raccoon ive using wet catfood, dry works also..
