Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Opa, your garden is shaping up. I'm paying close attention to your tomato system. You son's (right?) friend would want a young silkie roo would he? My daughter thinks she heard the silkie crow this morning. We knew it was coming. We had some backup plans, but they aren't working out. I'm sorry for the repeat (promise, this will be the last time), but is anyone interested in this 4 month old pet quality white silkie cockerel? I will bring him to you. I will give you $10 (and cookies?).
Where are you? You think two silkie boys would get along? I feel sorry for mine because he doesn't roost and sleeps all by himself...:(

Sorry to hear about your goat. Such is life.

Since we are sharing garden photos, I realized I hadn't shared mine with anyone yet (except for the new fencing). So here's what I got so far.

The peas, kale, broccoli rabe (mostly eaten already), carrots,
onions, lettuce, nasturtium, chard and greenie beanies in the
back. The cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprout are under
the row cover.

Corn and potatoes (almost ready)

tomatoes (four kinds)

shell beans (kidney and some other variety). The sad peppers
are hiding on the left) and tomatillos waaaaay in the back corner.

zukes and winter squash

herb garden (mint, lavender, dill, cilantro, thyme, oregano and
parsley). The chives might be in there somewhere too. The
basil is in a separate container with some cherry tomatoes.
Ran out of room.

ETA: you can see the beginnings of the new coop foundation in the background of the shell bean picture. Hasn't gotten very far this summer.
Great garden!!

Mind if I join this thread? I am from Michigan as well.

Welcome!

Well, I went to pick up an orphaned Muscovy duckling this afternoon and came home with the duckling AND a young turkey!!!! I have no idea what kind of turkey it is - it's a bluish grey color. Looks to be a couple months old. Someone did a hack job on it's wings (trying to trim them I would assume). He was loose in the road near where the duckling was waiting for me and my friend offered him to me with the duckling. So now I have a turkey, lol. I only need him for a couple of weeks to run alongside new chickens coming in (experiment to build Mareks resistance - no idea if it actually works). If anyone is interested in him after that he will be available for the price of a bag of Flockraiser (he's eating like a pig - I don't know how long he's been on his own but he was HUNGRY!). Otherwise, I will keep him until Thanksgiving . . .

6 chicks in the incubator out and 1 under the broody so far! Got the growout pen for the slightly older chicks ready, so as soon as the tigers game is over they will be evicted from the basement. I'm going to try putting a chick or three under my grumpy broody as well. I know that the 'preferred' timing is at night, but I have no idea how she is with chicks, so I'd rather do it while I can keep an eye on things in case she's not a good mama. She's been sitting tight on golf balls for 2 weeks, so hopefully she takes to them well. I'm tired of having chicks in the basement to worry about (and smell) so having them broody-raised will hopefully take care of that.

Anyone have a fav cherry wine recipe? My trees are so loaded the branches are drooping. I picked 15 pounds before the birds take everything, lol. Tommorow I'll get more and then crush. I've got tons frozen so these are surplus and wine seems like a good idea?
