Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Grand Rapids already allows chickens I believe. It's just that that privilege could be in jeopardy is the way I understand it.
The chicken ordinance now allows hens in coops, but they must be 100 feet from any dwelling. Most lots in the city will not meet that. So, essentially, hens are not allowed in GR.

The candidate I had my fingers crossed for lost. I don't know the chicken stance of the winner. It's likely she doesn't either. ;)

I am busy writing up bios for the chickens who will be involved in my Beaks 'N Books program. So I took a lot of pictures yesterday. Here are a few good ones.

Skippy and Arthur

Buzz starting to regrow his bowtie and tail

Martin and Mouse.

My son and Beaker.

Beaker, she is just the sweetest little thing who loves to be carried around.

Anyone need an Pearl OEG Roo?

We have been busy with lots of yard work as we have a family reunion coming up on Friday and Saturday that will be held at our home. We are doing chicken themed games, Chicken toss, Egg toss and Chicken poop bingo. I told my mom we are working with what we have. Tons of rain last night . I have yet to see what it did to the driveway and the tent we put up last night.

love the pics Tap, especialy the one of your son, "pilot and co-pilot" good luck for you party, , hope you have good weather!

raining off and on here, looks like a clearing coming from the N. I see blue sky out my kitchen window

I left enough daffodil bulbs in the ground to adequately "reseed" the area. I hope to find homes for most of them and will make room for whatever I don't get rid of.

cool, I lived in GR most of my life(, first 46 yrs) and never knew any one inside the city limits that had chickens...Wish I had knownI might have had them a long time ago

wi lived close to North Park and a lady just a block away had them when I was a kid, she ran a flower shop, loved to go see her animals, she had some very pretty chickens.

Fuzzy, you might try putting some pipe insilation over the edge of the opening for your cage
they also make (or at least made) an hard plastic guard to put over the edges, we had them on the rabbit cages my dad made when i was a kid. no idea how much it costs or where you can find it, but i have seen it before.

i'm supposed have some pest control guys out this morning to deal with a yellow jacket nest and there is quite a storm coming down right now which looks like it could be here pretty much all morning, if not all day. not sure they can do much in the rain.

i need a vacation from everyone else so i can get some stuff done. between my FIL unexpectedly having to move to WI for the summer to take care of his mother, a friend breaking his back, and my DH's business (which i also work for) doing pretty well all of a sudden, i have spent most of my "free" time this summer doing things for someone else. it isn't that i don't want to/begrudge any of them, but i have so much stuff to do too. the only time it bothers me is when someone else gets upset that we can't take care of their needs soon enough. and apparently every night this week is scheduled to hang out with friends. all people i want to see more often, but i still need to get stuff done. and of course they are all coming to my house, and one of the things i very much need to get done is cleaning my house. there aren't nearly enough hours in a day.
