Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

i need a vacation from everyone else so i can get some stuff done. between my FIL unexpectedly having to move to WI for the summer to take care of his mother, a friend breaking his back, and my DH's business (which i also work for) doing pretty well all of a sudden, i have spent most of my "free" time this summer doing things for someone else. it isn't that i don't want to/begrudge any of them, but i have so much stuff to do too. the only time it bothers me is when someone else gets upset that we can't take care of their needs soon enough. and apparently every night this week is scheduled to hang out with friends. all people i want to see more often, but i still need to get stuff done. and of course they are all coming to my house, and one of the things i very much need to get done is cleaning my house. there aren't nearly enough hours in a day.
I could have written this myself! Someone asked me the other day "If you could take a vacation, where would you go?"
Right now my ideal vacation would be if everyone else went somewhere for two weeks and left me home alone!
So much to do but there's always someone popping in or needing a favor. My DH is a contractor but I take care of the paperwork/payroll etc. that goes along with having your own business. Because I don't have a 9-5 outside of my home, everyone thinks of me when they need something, I'm always available. ←[sarcasm] It can be so frustrating.
On a brighter note ♫ the exterior of my coop is finished, and I've been checking out everyone's interiors, poop boards, nesting boxes, feed and water set ups and outdoor runs. It's keeping me somewhat sane

I am busy writing up bios for the chickens who will be involved in my Beaks 'N Books program. So I took a lot of pictures yesterday. Here are a few good ones.

Skippy and Arthur

Buzz starting to regrow his bowtie and tail

Martin and Mouse.

My son and Beaker.

Beaker, she is just the sweetest little thing who loves to be carried around.

Anyone need an Pearl OEG Roo?

We have been busy with lots of yard work as we have a family reunion coming up on Friday and Saturday that will be held at our home. We are doing chicken themed games, Chicken toss, Egg toss and Chicken poop bingo. I told my mom we are working with what we have. Tons of rain last night . I have yet to see what it did to the driveway and the tent we put up last night.
Your chickens (and human) are adorable, thank you for this mornings smile!

Seems to be the year to help others........... which I suppose isn't a bad thing.

We are getting some veggies from my brother since we didn't put in a garden this year _ no time to weed, right _ so..... we weeded their garden - go figure!

We have a friend who was messed up long ago in a work accident - can't work. I swear he's a disaster magnet. On July forth someone fell on his bad leg and broke it further (leg is held together with pins already) ..Just last weekend, same person, fell on him and stuck her cigarette IN in eye.. Dr isn't sure he'll fully recover his sight.... (we suggested he consider a new friend). Same person wants to hang out with me and I'm like... NO F'ing WAY!! She has a drinking problem and her DH just looks the other way..enabler.

So we have been helping him build a deck and a covered roof over the deck (14x20). He also has a big hoop storage frame that was damaged in the wind last year so I've been going over and welding up the frame.

He wants to help us and offered to help with the critters when we go on vacation, which is great... but his memory, trouble magnetism and physical issues....... not sure I can trust him alone, LOL!

Mean while back at home we're trying to build a goat shed (metal siding arrived yesterday)... Hopefully we'll get our goats sheltered before DH wants to head over to the friends house. (guess our deck will need to wait till next year, again)...

Speaking of vacations... anyone ever go to Vermont? Anything cool to do, see?
We're going on the bike up that way for a week.

Helping is what good neighbors do for each other. I've had help this year that I certainly appreciate. Mike (the other GC criminal) helped with the garage siding. Tom the tree guy has been keeping me stocked with good trees to cut into firewood. In turn, they have borrowed my tiller and woodsplitter and such.

The funny thing is that this seems to bother one or two people who like to call and complain about what I do in my yard. I suppose that they are jealous that I have friends and they don't.

Bike ride to Vermont sounds like fun. I'm riding mine up to Escanaba next week if I can get an animal sitter.

And all this rain? It just finished pouring here. Again. I am never gonna get to cut my lawn ....
Being from GA I have always thought that MI summers were too short but this is getting ridiculous.

Yeah yeah. I know. "Then why do you live in Michigan ?" Because all my family is within 45 max of me....and my family is more important than the weather

(BUT, if I win tomorrow night's $400M Powerball, I guarantee I will NOT be spending winters in Michigan ! And that will be enough $ to bring my chickens, dog & cats wherever I decide to go!)

This "summer" has been pathetic. When I have to wear a fleece jacket & sweats all day during the first week of August...well, that is simply unacceptable.
I live here because my DH is from MI and I happen to love my DH. If I win the powerball I too will be spending winters somewhere else. I am planning a trip now to South Carolina but my Aunt tells me it has been raining so much there, an unusual amount of rain. I sure hope it is nice when we go.
I am officially MAEAP verified now!

Congratulations.. so there are several times where you place was called a FARM... the state recognizes you as one now. Wonder what that means to GardenCity's thugs.

IF, I didn't have my dogs, I would offer to sit for you, but mine are not dog friendly (my male hates goldens for some reason). We have to play doggie roulette when we let them run in the yard as it is.
