Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My mother in law has 2 pear and 2 apple trees that she never does anything with. I've kind of adopted them, and have been reaping the rewards this month. The pears were awesome, and the apples are delicious.

Good Morning all! Welcome to all the newbies!! Hope you enjoy your stay here.

Sam, have you gone to doctor about your thumb and wrist problem?? Weren't they giving you problems, also?
The appointment for that specialist isn't until the end of the month. Losing strength in one hand sure presents more problems than you might think. Yesterday while carrying a hot platter with four slabs of ribs to the table the pain in my thumb was tremendous. Just as I got to the table my wrist gave out and I came very close to dropping our dinner on the floor.

THAT is one funny video ! Thanks.

My Delawares went to a new home yesterday, and it will be a good one. She is going to be looking for a rooster in late winter or spring, so post here if you know of any.

I have my 7 Iowa Blues left to rehome, they are 4 mos old so will be near POL soon. Right now the count is two cockerels and five pullets, but, one of those might be a cockerel, a couple more weeks will tell, its comb is larger then the other pullets. Nice big conformation though, I am really hoping that its a pullet.

When they have left to a new home I will have just the Icelandics, in 3 small flocks, and a pen of roosters growing out. I am hoping to make some real progress in developing these 3 flocks. And, hopefully in the spring they will get certified.

Right now all of the birds are in raised pens, even the turkeys. One may or may not be guest of honor at Thanksgiving, depends on how they grow, and if I dont make too much of pets out of them. That can happen.

Life goes on, and its good.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my questions concerning Howell. If anyone else has any information on a chicken friendly town within an hour's drive of Livonia, I'd love to hear about it! Especially if a small hunk of land zoned agricultural might be for sale

If anyone needs a super animal-friendly set of neighbors, let me know! I'm good with anything four legged or with wings! (And I know how to keep my dog in his own yard!)

I went out to let my chickens roam and clean the poop tray, which I do every morning. One of the stools was brown and runny with part of it containing bright red blood. I have had some stools with lil streaks of old looking blood in them, but not quite like this. I only have 6 hens and 1 roo, all between 5 mos and 1 yr. I checked them out and they are all runnin around and chasing bugs like normal. Any cause for concern or anything I should watch for? I've had them about 3mos w/no issues, but I am still a newbie and love this thread for reading and help. Thanks for ur help

I have the same thing going on. Randy, is not carpal tunnel, but it's the same thing. Tendon gets inflamed and the sheath is now too tight around the tendon. This runs on the side of the wrist and includes the thumb. If wrist is kept straight, not too bad, but any kind of twisting or carrying things is a big problem. Moving the thumb is a sure thing you will have a sharp pain and cry out in agony! Burning pain. Doctor told me fancy name for it, but I forgot what it was. Wanted to give me cortisone shot, but refused. I'm going to have to go my othro dr and get it fixed. Shot is just a temporary fix. Rather not play around and just have the surgery. Just been putting it off because of so much to do at end of summer here. Know you all know what I'm talking about!! After all the surgeries I've had because of bad tendons, I'm ready to just let dr go through my body and slash all the sheaths and get it over with. Carpal tunnel on both wrists, 8 fingers done... one twice! Doctor said I use my hands a lot and carry too much weight.... so hear that people. Don't try and carry a lot at once.
