Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just watched a news report that I don't quite understand. It said that Butterball was reporting a shortage of turkeys. That for some unknown reason they weren't growing as fast as normal. It said that this shortage only affected fresh turkeys.

What I don't quite understand does this mean frozen turkeys grow faster?

I hope everybody is ok this morning. I lost power around 7:00pm last night and it's still not on. On the way to the Base there were downed trees everwhere. I think i'm going to leave early just to keep an eye on my sump pump.

Take care all and have a safe day!

Ohhh.....one more thing....if you call DTE mad about your power, and get a Jennifer.....please be nice. My wife works for DTE help center and she will be getting allot of cranky people on the phone today.

Thanks in advance!

I, too, hope everyone is ok.

Just an initial assessment at 0430 at my house; my blind is TRASHED; the chimney cover/screen for wood burning stove was sitting by the chicken coop; shingles on the ground, huge branch in back yard from one of said ash trees; could see many fresh breaks in trees in woods behind my house...

Have power, but gonna have to wait til DH gets up & its light out for full damage report...I got to work at 0545 & had a nice tail wind driving in...

As Opa said, I am very thankful after seeing the news reports from south of here...I am praying for all those that lost everything...also hope all the hunters got out of the woods before this hit....

400

A tree limb down by the coop.

400

Bird feeders got blown over. Hope nothing broke

400

Our spare 200 dollar hutch broke! Came out last night to check the chickens. Found the roof on the ground.

Chickens are fine. One pic I don't have is of our flag pole. That bent and broke at the base. Anyone else loose one?

We had very mild damage. Just a few power flickers but we never lost it like we ALWAYS do. I hope everyone didn't get bad damage! Good luck cleaning all of the twigs, I know you all have twigs in your yard somewhere lol

Get well soon Opa!

Careful out there hunters...

Beautiful rainbow. I love your coop, any inside pictures?

I'll get some inside pictures soon. Still cleaning the inside from storing all the tools and whatnot but I have the nest boxes installed and the roosts. Still need pop doors but I'm not sure yet where I want them. They'll be staying inside for a while anyways so I have time to decide. I think I want to fence a new pasture on one side and have an enclosed run on the other. Still thinking on it though. Both will probably be next spring's projects anyway.

Hope everyone emerged unscathed this morning. We had some wicked winds last night in excess of 55mph, the kind that scare me away from windows - horizontal rain. As the light reveals our yard, I'm not seeing anything down, at least from the house. I'll have to take a walk around the barn to be sure though.

Our power is on, but the land phone lines are down. 50 mph wind gusts here this am, clouds and snow flurries, the water is a beautiful shade of cloudy green with bright whitecaps. 2 freighters and a Coast Guard vessel offshore today.

The damage done by just moments of tornadic winds is amazing. What is even more amazing is how few people were injured and killed, very likely thanks to our weather forecasters and their ability to give a warning early enough for people to seek shelter.

Power went out at 9 last night. We have a small generator we just got going. It's good enuf for tv, puter, coffee maker and fridge. What else do I need? LOL We have propane, so have the stove for heat, DTE said tues at 11:30. Kids happy no school, but coaches said still show up for practice later. Haha! At least deer meat is still ok. I will def hook up kitchen aide and get grinding the meat today, nothin else to do. Tarps stayed up for chickens and just 1 part of the fence caved a lil and fixed that. Our smoker blew over, hope that's ok. Hope all the folks in the other states are doin better today, they really got hit in Il and Ind. Hope all is well with everyone today.

Sam, you take care of yourself!! Stay out of the coop and protect your incisiion. Nothing to fool with.

We have power. High winds and some rain. Nothing too bad. RaZ, you're gold willow sappling made it through ( I spelled it out just for you) the storm just fine,

Checking with my family in IL. So far, all ok.

Take care and stay safe. Winds are still pretty strong.

I still have power. Thankfully because in the city the gas furnace still needs electric to run. go figure! Yesterday's wind didn't do much except move a tarp a little on my hutch coop... i fixed that but wasn't expecting it to blow so hard all night long! I will drive out in a minute to check the birds. This will be remembered in my mind as the fall with the most windstorms...
