For my neighbors sake, I don't have the lights come on until 6:30 am. I prefer the light on later in the day. We need to see what's going on when we feed them. It also gets them outside a bit longer on warmer days. I have a crabby neighbor that complained the roosters crow on the weekend. I had a talk with the boys, but they didn't listen to me.

5 deer eating in my hunting spot at the moment and about 10 sets of glowing green eyes bedded down in the woods right behind the house. Think the guys hunting down the way just may get lucky this morn. I'm not gonna hunt, cuz my blind isn't back up (of course I could take care of business easily from the deck, only a 50-60 yd shot ...) AND, I don't feel like gutting (DH not here & that is normally his job since I clean the bathrooms & do ALL of the food preservation ).

Think I'll just stay in the warm house & continue with my XMAS baking !

Thanks. I use cornmeal in a lot of things like cornbread, pancakes, polenta, tamales, dusting the stone for pizza and artisan breads, etc. Mostly cornbread. My chili and cornbread are one of my family's favorite dinners. I grew kidney beans this year too so between those, the canned tomatoes, local grassfed beef, dried chilis, homemade raw buttermilk, my chicken's eggs and now cornmeal... it's what's for dinner.

Lady: That is one awesome coop! And you are an awesome gardener. Dedicated too! I'm not sure I could accomplish all that. My chicken run is not yet finishedand I have been working on it since April. Of course I've had some major delays but still, well anyway just wanted to say "Cool" !

For the record, I don't judge people for their beliefs. I do judge beliefs, however, as they do not have feelings and are deserving of scrutiny. A little festive touch to the unfinished coop. Installed the cedar siding on the peak. The rest of the siding will get a faux board and batten look with the addition of some furring strips to cover the seams. It's getting a bit cold for painting though so it might have to wait until spring. About 14lbs. of organic, non-gmo corn from the garden, waiting to be ground for human consumption. The chickens already got their cut. My hands are bit raw.

Thanks, but don't let it fool you. We were fortunate to have much of the supplies left to us by the previous homeowners who ran a remodeling business from the barn along with other supplies we had at our disposal. All of the windows were from the house when we had them replaced, half the shingles were from a previous re-roofing as well as some felt paper I found in the garage. Most of the plywood was found in the barn as well as the door, some drip edging, the cedar siding was left in the barn too (I would have never bought that for a chicken coop), some mortar, etc. We couldn't and wouldn't have afforded to build the whole thing solely from purchased materials - not that big. In the end, it cost about the same as a large shed from a big box store that is probably half the size. So my family is still laughing at me but guess where they're staying when they come to visit?

There was a place (farm ) on The road from Mesik to Manton that we used to take when going north for vacations back then thet was feasible for us. Had a sign on the Barn that read "RELATIVES ROOST". I recall smiling several times when seeing that sign. Incidentally, the barn was not so nice as your chicken house.

I have been fighting a battle to post some pictures I would like to share with anyone who wants to see some of the family arts/crafts. The instructions located didn't seem to work for me, and they were incredibly difficult to locate too. Hours invested. Anyway, some are in my profile if anyone is interested. (Actually, they are there even if you couldn't care less.) I added some comments but don't know where they went. I have some more pictures of the quilts and needle work Bryan did if anyone is interested. llet me know.


Can't remember if I thanked you for condolences for Kipper. I seem to be having a lot of that crs problem now. Thanks a bunch. It helped.

Actually I now find it even MORE impressive! Coming up with that beautiful design utilizing virtually all items you already had on hand is way sweet!
