  Good Morning all.  Quick question.  I'm getting ready to sell one of my english chocolate orpington hens.  I'd love to sell her local, but I don't know if there is any interest in the breed around here. Anyway, if I do have to ship her, where do I get the shipping boxes from?

You may be able to get at TSC or they have poultry powders as well.

Treat the whole flock, clean the coop and spray down with pyrethrin (you can get it in a bomb too) :http://www.hydroponics.net/i/132550 though I've never used a bomb, it may be the best option during the winter... though you'll have to boot the birds, food and water out of the coop for several hours.

I would be very careful when spraying anything wet in the coop in winter, if it does not dry completely before night they can get frost bite on combs

Sometimes, happiness is an old dog.

Nicky is a 12 year old Beagle who ended up in the shelter recently. I have to say I'm a sucker for big eyes and gentle souls, because he is now home with me! He is such a kind old boy! Very sweet and incredibly playful! He gets winded quickly during his play sessions, but still has a blast.

His previous owner had to go to a nursing home. The family actually boarded Nicky at a boarding facility for a year before deciding to surrender him (I can't imagine what that actually cost them!). It sounds like nobody in the family was able to house a dog, for whatever reason. But he was well loved. He came with a massive dog bed, a big bin of toys, and four bags of dog food donated by the family. His adoption fee was also waived.

It will be hard when his life inevitably comes to an end. But I am glad he could be in a warm, loving him during his golden years. I'll be starting him on some glucosamine and chondroitin to his joint health, and he's been getting fish oil since he came home, too, at meal times.

Could I have adopted a puppy or young adult dog? One who I could have so many more years with? Yep, but I love Nicky! Also, age isn't a guarantee of many years of love. My parents adopted a young rottie a few years ago, and they lost him nine months after they brought him home. He developed epilepsy (he'd never had a seizure in his foster home, it was a new thing), so they got him meds. The meds worked for a while, then the seizures got more frequent and worse. Med increases or changes helped for a short time, but then stopped being effective. He then went into a long seizure that not even an emergency vet could bring him out of, so they eased him over the rainbow bridge so he didn't have to suffer anymore.

Anyway, back to happy news. Nicky has settled in so well already, it is like he's been here his entire life!

.It takes a lot of practice to get the snoozing right. Nicky is a lucky dog and you were lucky to hook up with him. It would be nice if there were some way to reassure his old owner that he went to a good home to live out his years remaining, My german shepard was acquired under the same circumstances
and he's a wonderful dog.

Been soo busy!

Thank you everyone! We are all excited for my brother and his wife for another baby! This time there is nothing wrong with her!

Kitty- Grace's family loved the turkey. Said that the flavor was so rich!

Well, added a new member to my small herd to meet the milk demand. Got her on Saturday. She was already named, but I liked it, its Pearl. She is due this month or the next, expecting her 2nd calf. 100% Jersey. Almost 2 years old!
