Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Oh my gosh! So sorry chickenwhispers!! I can't imagine finding the massacre!! I hope that the injured are not so badly injured that they can survive.

Thank you all. I know every one here understands. Thanks again for "listening". Another thing is now I can't let them free range anymore like they're used to. Next spring they will have an electric fence in addition to the run being completely predator proof. And since the dogs are in the atea I'm sure they'll be back so the run needs to get done before they are well enough to go outdoors.

Do you know who the dogs belong to?? Can you go and talk to them and tell them what happened? Hopefully by spring the dogs won't be a problem any more and you can let them free range again. Again, so sorry.

One was a German Shepard from just up the road about 1/4 mile. We think the other that was a beagle was a stray another neighbor found wandering on the road on Sunday. I will probably get 300 feet or so of portable electric fencing so they have some room. But that's not like having 2 1/2 acres to pasture on.

And thank you.

Thanks fivewire. It Is. Tonight I put fresh straw down for them to lay in but tomorrow I have to clean it all out. Feathers everywhere. Its a wonder any have any feathers left. 1 has bare back, my favorite a Blue Marans. One has a bare bottom. All have puncture wounds. One can't walk, one hobbles. I'm not sure if those 2 will make it. I dont know how 2 dogs got 14 chickens in such a short time frame. And why the girls didn't get up in the trees right by their run. Nice big arborvitae trees with curvy low to high trunks for roosting. They do that for fun all summer? 2 :(of my black copper marans dead the 3rd missing. :( :(

So sorry this had to happen to you. I know how it is, my own new rescue dog killed my prized blue Jersey Giant roo. They take so long to mature he was two and the dog killed him when I was out of town and my grown son and hubby were taking care of things.

Problem, without my lead roo the young roos are out of control with the hens. I put three in a 10 x 10 dog kennel for the time being. I am trying to get rid of them on craigslist but no takers. Wrong time of the year. I can't kill them.
