Bob, is the font issue making it so you cannot change it when writing a post? Check your preferences under your sign on name and make sure the "rich text editor" is selected as an option (I think bb code editor is the other option).

Well i am freaking out. My chicks were supposed to arrive today. And post office says no chicks came this morning. And the tracking info has them intransit, in florida two days ago and no additional info since then. My poor peeps are lost in the great unknown! I hope they make it they will be 4-5 days old tomorrow

Hope they make it ok. In the mean time, I would pick up some electrolyte and probiotics to put in their water to help give them a boost. If you have any that are dead, dying or not doing well, I would call the hatchery and let them know right away.

Even better than a game camera would be something like a wireless internet connected camera with night vision, like this like this it would allow you to view chicks from any device with internet access, even while traveling. At just $65 I plan to have one in my coop once I'm done building it.

(don't forget an additional 50$ for the software to run it) Still, not a bad deal. Might see about something like this for the goat shed... kidding season soon!!

Is anyone else getting a serious itch to hatch out some chicks??? I don't think I can hold off any longer!

My hubby will probably kill me, he doesn't feel the same uncontrollable need that I do

I am hoping to put some more in the bator Feb 1st. I have 6 weeks and 2 weeks in the basement. I have to get them moved before I can hatch anymore. The hubby is building a new holding pen for them until the snow melts a little and they can go outside. My neighbors are going to freak out while they see how many new chickens we will have this spring.

I don't believe the extra $50 software is needed unless you want to integrate multiple cameras, receive text message alerts, or compress the video file sizes so that they take up less space on your PC.

yeah i already have some save a chick. Use it when i hatch mine out. And i feed fermented feed so they get the probiotics there and i got them from a trusted breeder who already knows whats going on. I just feel bad for them peeps.

Well we got close to a foot of snow last night. Another snow day for the kids.

I too have hatching fever, but I am trying to BE STRONG and hold off for another 2 months. I might see about putting some eggs in right before we leave for vacation and being half way through incubating by the time we get home! I'm considering a wybar project, but I don't know if I have the time/patience/space to deal with something that involved. Add to that the fact that I don't know that I have the birds in my possession right now to even START such a project. *sigh*

Yes! Planning to set some early February......just need to find some green/blue and chocolate fertile eggs locally, gonna be tough.

6 inches of light fluffy snow overnight and still falling, supposed to stop this afternoon.

Thanks for the input. All this is for my son who is doing market livestock this year. He will be selling an laying pair of chickens and a turkey. We thought he may get more for an EE or a Maran because of egg colors. I didn't want to buy any birds but none of ours are really know to be great egg layers. Narragansett were the turkeys we liked best but with only meeting some once we have no idea. It seems we aren't the only people who like them. It looks like they may be hard to get this year.

I am being lazy and haven't yet been out this morning to shovel the volumes of snow we received last night.... at least 6 inches of WET snow. I have decided snow banks are our friends as I stuck myself in one on the way home last night. Thankfully I just put it in 4-wheel drive and drove out. My current tires do not like wet snow and my new tires are not here yet so I will be an extremely slow driver for the next few days.
If you are wanting Narrangansett egg or poults I can let you know when mine start laying. One of my girls is starting to show signs of mating already. Of course, she's picked me as her mate
