Welcome, Matt. I would love to take the pullers but with this cold, it would be very difficult to introduce them to the existing flock. Do you have them outside? Well, in a coop hopefully, lol. Or indoors in your home. I'm in Davison also

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, they have a coop and a fenced run outside. They have done well. The coop keeps them out of the weather....lately they are either in it or under it, not big fans of the snow.

Fuzzy I have a hen with an injured leg who can not stand or walk well and no apparent injuries.


I have an incubator questions. My incubator is the type that is foam with a plastic liner with a wire sheet on top of it. I was digging it out yesterday, just to look mind you! It must not have been totally dry when I put it away last year. The wire on the bottom has rust spots on it. I cleaned it all again but they do not come off. Do you think this would affect the hatching?

My BLRW had the same issue. I hope you have better luck with your hen than I did!


I have 2 incubators: one I got well-used, and one I bought brand new. The older one has some rust on the wire bottom. I put the rubberized shelf liner down over it when I hatch, which makes cleanup a LOT easier: I can just pick up all 4 corners and throw it away. I bought a whole roll on clearance, so I'm not worried about the $2 I spent that will get me through 3 or 4 hatches. You could also buy new wire, which I'm sure you've considered.


I am SO wanting to incubate eggs! So so desperately. We have a sheet and a half of luon in the basement because we read the directions wrong when we built our bed just after thanksgiving and I'm pretty sure I could make a good brooder out of it. I have one of those metal GQF brooders that you can stack, but after about 3 weeks some of the larger chicks can't really stand up straight.



Would anyone be interested in a thread for those of us in MI that incubate and have chicks from time to time? I've been rolling the idea around in my brain for awhile......just a way to find out who has what and when they usually incubate and if you would be willing to sell/give away your chicks. I really enjoy hatching, but I definitely don't have room to keep everything I hatch.

Yay, it's snowing again. I can't wait to break out the shovel, snow blower, and tractor. As an added bonus today, with the sub-zero temperatures, the water bowls were soild frozen and I just love that I can't do animal math. Yay.

I have 1 isa brown 1 barred rock 1 barred rock mix 2 jerseys 2 blue laced 2 black laced 2 ees and 1 fleur d'uccle (slightly crossed beaked but manages just fine). Great egg layers super sweet birds. For personal reasons I can't keep them any more looking for a good home that will love them as much as I do. They love their treats so spoiling is appreciated. Please pm me if you can help. I'll give the food mix I have with the girls.

Sounds good.  Im going to give some eggs a try starting this weekend.

I have some due to hatch the 17th will set some more after that. So i would be up for that thread.
